  • Does anyone know if they provide invoice at full value to claim for TRS?

    • eBay sellers usually do.

    • TRS?

        Testicular Regression Syndrome

  • ok it's not the same model.. they all look so similar.

  • The price is A$349 for me

    • You need to use the coupon in the post at checkout

  • Damn I thought these were the headphones I'd been waiting for, but now I just read in the comments [here] (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/860698) that you cannot turn off the ANC!
    ?

    • +2

? You just need the app and you can, even adjust the amount too

      • +1

Ah ok. So you can turn off the ANC through the app?

Next drawback wihich is very significant in Sydney at the moment - no IPX rating! XD

        • +1

You can also turn the ANC off from the headphones. Pinch out and you'll activate transparency.

Source, someone who owned this for 2 years (and had to give it away to a family member)

Also worth noting is that there was a long period of time where whatever I did, the stupid headphonewould not turn on. Charged from every charger I had, reset it, to no avail. Three months later, once I'd finally given up on it and was about to throw it out I decided to have another shot and it just magically turned on again. Bizzare.

          • @LilSlip: Mine is currently off at Sennheiser due to the same fault.
They confirmed it's defective and said they will send me a new one (had it for less than a year) but sure are taking their sweet time to ship it back.
I also had to pay one way shipping which is some BS.

          • @LilSlip: But transparency mode is different from ANC off.

        • None of these bose, sony, sensheisser wireless headphones have an ipx rating
You need wireless ear buds for that

      • You dont need the app to adjust ANC, use 2 finger pinching movement on the right cup.

In the most recent firmware/app it is now possible to do it - ANC fully off so no random hiss.

I have two pairs and they both have the issue. They're usable now with ANC turned off, but I've effectively lost the ANC feature. I still prefer them over the Sony xm models because I prefer the sennheiser audio profile, but once the xm6's come down in price I'll probably move on.

      • Interesting. Thanks for the reply.
I am a bit put off by all the reports of issues.
ANC isn't my priority, but it's a feature that would be desirable - especially if buying ANC headphones!

From my in-store listening tests (which I have curtailed due to getting an ear infection a couple of months ago that I suspect was from display headphones), I had mixed feelings about the Momentum 4s - I liked that I could pair with bluetooth and test my own music, and I was initially very impressed, thinking these were the ones for me. However I did a second test and came away feeling a bit disappointed - they seemed a bitharsh, and midranges seemed to distort quite a lot if I turned the volume up - maybe the second test headphnes were faulty.

Having said that, at least I was able to try them with using bluetooth and my own music - unlike the Boses and Sonys.
Fwiw, I did think the Sony XM4s sounded great on three of the four demo tracks (poor on the indie rock track) though a bit bassy, whereas the XM5s (I have listened less carefully due to being out of my budget) were more polarising - sounding better on some tracks and way worse on others.
I would have jumped on the recent box damaged XM4s deal if it wasn't for the reports of weak hinges, hot ears, and issues from sweat affecting the microphones and ANC.

I'm becoming a bit disillusioned with my search for bluetooth NC headphones when the leading brands flagship models have such common and significant issues.
I'm also becoming convinced that they are all so bass-orientated to mask external noise and sonic shortcomings of bluetooth, mp3 and closed backs in general.

Beware of the static hiss and other noiselessly issues plaguing this model

    • +1 In transparency mode, annoying noise if nothing is being played

      • In 2025 and a top brand still churns out something like that? Disgraceful

        • +1

This model is a few years old

    • I'm a headphone newbie - can you share why these are better?

    • lol. lmao, even.

  • Sennheiser HD 650 Open Back Dynamic Audiophile - $424 with the FYMY15

  • I moved from xm4s to these the other week. I like the Sony's, but found the ears feel a bit sweaty after longer use. I find the Sennheisers feel a bit nicer/lighter/breathable on the ears. I think the sound quality is a touch more to my liking on the Sennheisers too. A bit less warm, but greater clarity. Haven't tried the xm5s, so they too might have solved my qualms with the xm4s.

    • FYI you can get third-party ear pads with cooling gel inserts that might help. They may affect sound profile but could be worth a try.

      • Good tip!

      • I tried these cooling gel pads for my XM5s but because the material is the same it still ended up warm in the ears and was still itchy. No difference from the originals. Ended up returning both the XM5 and the cooling pad.

    • how does the anc compare to the xm4s? loads of mixed reviews on the momentum 4s

      • +1

Before selling the Sony's, I A/B'd them, and the Sony does have a bit of an edge for ANC, but in saying that, the Sennheisers are plenty good ANC for me. I'm listening either on a train, a fairly quiet office, or walking around the city. Maybe if I were taking flights like every week and noise cancelling was critical, Sony's might be preferable. When listening to the Sennheisers, I'm not really noticing how much better the Sony ANC is, though. Only when I A/Bd

  • I have moved from Bose 45s and Sony M4s to these. ANC is great and adjustable, I don't get any hiss so can't comment there. I love the sound profile. The Bose are a bit more comfortable but the Sennheiser's work for me. 60hrs battery life is crazy, I rarely have to charge them. At this price they are a bargain.

    • How long have you had the Momentums?
I see a lot of complaints saying the problems develop after a few months.

  • Since I have HD6XX headphones currently but wanted wireless I decided to get these on a previous sale JB recenetly but ended up returning them because I'd gotten used to the bigger earcups of the 6XX for comfort reasons (obviously noise canceling headphones are always going to be tighter).

If you have similar preferences the bose Quietcomfort felt more comfortable and with slightly bigger earcups (although shorter batterylife but I plan to use at home mostly), waiting for a sale on those.
