More nbn - Can Telstra Modem Be Used or Get a New Modem?

Hello… I am thinking about switching from Telstra to More NBN with the CBA Yello offer. Does anyone know whether I can use the Telstra modem (gen 2) that comes with it or do I have to buy an Eero?

Also I heard it's slower than the Telstra service, is that right? I am on the cheapest Telstra plan (25/10) and I can still stream youtube and netflix without a problem at night peak hours (8-10pm), not sure if I can do the same with More?

Appreciate any insights. Thanks!

  • I used a Telstra modem with Superloop for a bit over a year before the thing died. It worked great until suddenly it didn't. If they use PPOE you'll need to enter login details as I understand it but otherwise it should work just fine.

    • Same, mine just died one night. Looked it up and apparently its quite common to burn out. Shame as its a lot better than the eero 6+ that im using now

      • Yeah I'm using eero 6+'s too. Real shame as I had a whole mesh system with the Telstra one but it was locked to that particular modem. Wasn't willing to buy a second hand one considering this was the third to just die.

  • I have one of these. Every week or two I have to reset it when the hamster in it stops working. There'll be a connection but near total congestion.

  • Yes, I use a Telstra modem with MORE. The sim inside the modem still works when the internet go off.

More will give you the login details which you will have to login to the modem and enter for the first time.

  • You'll be fine, More is pretty good. Yes Telstra modem will work. I've done it for a while. They are pretty good.

If it is working fine for you already, no reason it would change when on More. You may need to just log in and update your settings if necessary

  • Which has the faster evening speed? Telstra claims 25/4 down/up, slightly slower uploads than More 25/8.5

  • More and Tangerine are the same company.
I used the Telstra Smart gateway with both More and Tangerine and it worked fine. However I have now moved to TP link deco due to change in wfh setup.

  • Telstra smart modem will work, but a eero is a good piece of equipment. It’s range is better than a gen 2 Telstra modem

  • I'm still rocking my vodafone router from like 2019

  • Yes, but recently found out you can't use the Voip with any other provider.
