Optus nbn Customer Retention Offer: Contact Customer Service for $5/Month off for 6 Months @ Optus

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I dont think this is a deal but may help someone. Received an email from Optus about NBN price increasing from July ($5 more than what i am paying).
I am ready to contact Spintel for 6 month $65 on 100/20 and ongoing is cheaper than AGL.
Then I think to give Optus another try to save a new credit check, and also there is no attractive offer atm. I called Optus retention team on 133937 , they gave me a $5 discount for 6 months. After 6 months, need to call back and check if any other discount or plan. ( they asked me if I use my landline at all which I said No.)
I will wait for a good EOFY deal to change to a different provider anyway, as Optus has increased so many times over the years.
Seems painless and straightforward process for existing customer if you would like $5 discount and wait for a good deal to move.

Mod: Negotiated deal. Moved to forums so that discussion can continue.

        Any feedback?

    Don't. It's not worth it.

Ex Optus Cable and NBN customer for decades…till I had enough. Have not missed them.

You then need to call back every 6 months and demand/grovel for another 6 months, every 6 months. Just go with a different company at lower rate, period.

Wait for a good deal before move

  • I have 1 month free as I have 3 electricity failure at my home in the space of 1 month, but when the electricity backed up, the internet is not connected due to unsynched between nbn and Optus.

Wait hours for an offshored call centre agent to answer the phone who can't understand a word of English. Have been burnt one too many times by Optus, but the deal may suit some.

    • In total 16 minutes includes identifying.

I’m not sure you have either tried or are team Telstra. Retention team isn’t offshore. Generally you can get at last 25% off mobile plans at the minimum.

I’m on Telstra because work pays but Optus has way better coverage and sales support than Telstra imo.

  • Not really a 'oz' bargain..
    it's more of a discount.
Not negging and not +ve for this reason.

  • the saga of credits checks is why i’m still with optus and take the $5 mth deal, after the loss of drivers licenses and things they have problems validating unless i go in store ….. yes the overseas call centres are problem to deal with, outside of billing and discount the internet and mobile services are fine.

  • TPG retention team does better than that.

Stay away from Optus, got burnt few times.

  • $5 off to retain you? They have regular and larger "off" offers for new customers, like $10 off for 6 months, looking at their website now they're offering way more. Just goes to show how much they value their existing customers.

    • I had this conversation with a Team Leader too. They treat existing customers like shit and give bigger discounts to acquire new ones. Take your money elsewhere where you are valued as a customer.

Your time is better off spent doing what you love, or sleeping. Is still better than being in the queue and have to talk to the abysmal customer service and retention team at Floptus.

  • I'll got the same email and have been contemplating contacting them about a discount. I quite like their supplied modem (FAST5366TN-A). Doesn't miss a beat. Has anybody ever attempted to re-flash the firmware on these so that you can remove the locked down Optus settings and possible reuse the device with another supplier?

  • I've been on $15 off/month retention for several years any my monthly bill has still crept up to $78 now.

Should probably go to iinet or somewhere that can easily beat that with a new customer offer but I'm quite lazy, and do not want to get into a cycle of changing providers every 6 months. Plus I have Fetch which is a bit limiting.

  • Just been in discussion with Optus via chat about my NBN 100/40Mbps going up from $90 to $95. Below is the outcome and what I was able to negotiate:

    • $59 for the first 6 months
    • $84 for the next 6 months
    • Free Ultra WiFi Modem Gen 2

Basically, they have applied an additional $15 per month discount for 12 months but encouraged me to seek them out again before it reverts back to $99 in 12 months to see what they can do for me then. Overall, I'll take that as a win.

    • wow good job. my guy was a real ass.

in the end all he'd give me was 50mb for $59. which isn't horrible. Will stick it out for a few months before churning again.

with the "free" modem, he did offer me that, until i questioned what would happen if i left after 6 months. he said, what they're doing is crediting the monthly cost of the modem so if i left, i have to pay the rest… um no thanks. your guy may have been easier to deal with
