    I looked at a couple of the flights Melb to Hong Kong. The price quoted in the deal required 1 day and 7 hours journey.

        I'm not sure what the attraction is with Singapore these days. It is pricey with the very strong SGD (or weak AUD).

          Accommodation will be the biggest expense, but it's offset by cheaper airport><city transport and cheaper food if you eat at the hawker centres.

          I don't mind a one night stopover in SG as I like to take a break after an 8 hour flight. For some it may not be worth it if you want to maximise an extra day at your next destination.

      They are fine if you know what you're in for. Wide body planes with decent leg room. Just bring your own water or spend some of your 200-300 dollar saving on refreshments on board

      Terrible if you're tall (I'm 183cm). Ok for short flight 2-3 hrs, not for long flight. Next time I'll pay more to get more comfort.

      How much travel have you done in Asia? Have you been to either before?
      First time, Singapore is great as an introduction, but it is not cheap, their currency is stronger than ours.
      Vietnam is way more fun to explore, but less English, more chaotic but that is the nice part in my opinion.

      I got a $1.10 SGD for $1 AUD when I first went ~9 years ago.
      Now its $0.84 SGD for $1 AUD.
      Its a massive increase when paying for a hotel and things to do.
      Food is still cheap compared to Perth, but alcohol is so expensive now (even at Hawker centres)

    Be careful with Scoot if you have checked in luggage. Very bad experience, they put your luggage on a different flight that could arrive days later & when you try to make a claim after numerous emails & calls, they come back with a simple phrase, you are not entitled for any compensation.

      That's when you remind them of their obligations under the Montreal Convention. It took me six months to claim a measly S$20 from them because they would stretch out their responses and drag their feet often taking the full 4-6 weeks to provide a template response.

      Alternatively, just claim from your travel insurance company and save yourself the headache.

    I am very wary of booking flights and accommodation through a third party having been burnt in the past by reputable third parties.

    I was in South Korea and boarding a flight back to Australia. The Airline told me they didn't have my bookings, I didn't have a seat.
    I showed them the email booking confirmation I had received. Unfortunately, the third party never secured by flight directly with the Airline.
    I had to pay for another flight and I had to wait at the airport for many hours.

    What a nightmare. Never again.

    Problem with these prices is that once you factor in the massive taxes and fees, plus the inconvenience of elongated layovers after clocking in a red eye leg of the flight, the total price doesn't seem all that bargainly anymore
