Any Websites Where User Can Submit What Price They Got Their Vehicle for at The Dealers?

I'm back in the market for a vehicle for the misses and was surfing the net for some ideas. It came to me that I would always want to know how much someone paid at the dealers and how much wiggle room there is.

I'm wondering if there is already a website where people who recently purchased a vehicle from a dealer sharing the price and dealership they got. I think having this would really help people who are purchasing demo/new cars. I understand that it will depend on if the dealership is doing any sales or trying to hit a target. But I still think it's much better than making assumptions if we could have some data to reference.

Alternative is just digging through all the forums and hoping someone posted about it.

Whirlpool. But we don't mention them here. Their users don't make enough money to join ozbargain.

No sure if still exists but someone there used to manage an awesome Mazda spreadsheet of dealership prices.

  • Virtually no wiggle room on Toyotas. Accessories is where it's at

Just use a broker, like Motorscout. It doesn't cost you anything and can save you thousands. I've used them twice and can't recommend their service highly enough.

    • I tried using them for my earlier car purchase last year. I was going for a Mazda CX-8 GT and the cheapest they could find for me was 58k. But I already did my research and 2 Mazda dealers already listed on carsales for 57.6k before haggling. I ended up going to the dealer and haggled the price down to 56.5k. I even mentioned it to Motorscout and they said unfortunately the dealers were not part of their network or something along the lines. So not sure I would get the best deal but probably more convenient.

  • Unlikely to exist because participants may need to be incentivised to upload their dealer receipt

Just because one person gets a price, doesn’t mean another person will get the same price

  • Oh, and see if they have a list of lengths of pieces of string as well.

Different dealers are going to have different prices on cars. Someone gets a ripper deal on a red one but you want a yellow one, no yellow in the country, you’re paying more to order it.

A lot of people’s experiences are going to be different. Some dealers might not have the same margin on a car, some will have excess stock, some will have rebates available, some are sinking in poor sales while others met target a week into the month.

A list is great, but it isn’t going to be much of a guide unless you are buying your car at the same place, from the same guy at the same time.

Have a price in mind that you are happy to pay and try your luck. If they say no, move on or try again in a week or so.

(Side note: the other thing to remember is that people lie. Making a list turns it into a pissing competition and people will lie to win said pissing competition. Other dealers will also either over quote on these lists to raise the price of a car, or make up low prices to devalue a competitor’s stock…)

    • I don't disagree with what you are saying. However, if the database was big enough and contained all the details you mentioned like colour, model, badge etc I'm sure it could match a lot of the model/cars people are interested in. Example right now, I'm interested in the Haval Jolion Lux - White.

I've seen so many on the road and if some of the buyers could upload their deals I could have a reference to how much I can haggle. Right now I don't know are the margins thin so might not be able to haggle so i should expect that or if there's a little bit of wiggle room. Some might buy it for the current price of $27,000 or some might have haggled to $26,000 or maybe in the recent EOFY one of them got a crazy for $25,000. The insights i get from this is there's some wiggle room and you might get a good deal during EOFY, if im in a rush for car I might not be able to wait so I'll try haggle to $26,000.

At the end of the day I could just go in and start haggling for $25,000 without any data reference. However, going in with at least some data would really help so I don't cave in too early XD

Someone made a site but it died quickly because prices are are incomparable. There was a site but it died quickly for all the reasons mentioned above.

Were there two sites, or did one site die twice?
