    $33/tb too high

    • New Storage is definitely not cheap atm, The Ironwolf Pro is $31.11 per tb after your $40 rebate but you would need to buy 2 of them

If you don't mind a DOM 2023 and refurbished $444 is a alternative at 18TB ($24.67 per tb)

Would be ok in a RAIDZ2 setup but you would need a lot of them

Honestly the reports on ozb about those refurbished drive make me feel like it's throwing money away

        • I've had 14 of these drives, only had 1 fail in 3 years and that was refunded once I sent it back. Can't really complain about that.

          • @vger74656: I bought a Seagate 16TB X16 off them in 2024 for $247 as a cold offline backup. So far so good.

I almost went back to them to get some more but the $314 Seagate X18 16TB are sold out

If this new deal + rebates didn't popup I probably would have gone 3x16TB from ED - but I know that there have been some dodgy disks floating around from them

Remember when sub $20/TB was where we were at like 18m ago https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/828443

    • +3

Those drives aren't new and no local warranty.

      • The post literally said " brand new OEM drive 3 year warranty" with an 18TB for 309 in that category.

        • +6

They can claim whatever they want. Look at the actual used hours. Many on here have shown otherwise.. You can take the risk and buy it if you like but it's disingenuous to claim they're 'brand new'.

          • @Phlume: thats disappointing, I can't say I bought in 2024, anyway mantra also highlighted a good deal from not that long ago.

I'm not the east digital rep so won't defend their dodgy practices, my point was just that $30/TB is a huge increase in recent times compared to older deals.

this was the real deal in 2023 ($15.51/TB)

      • +4

Wow bring back $15.51/TB for sure, makes me sad when you look back and realised how much we get ripped off now. Look at the GPU market or the housing market.

How did it get so bad?

I feel like this is how everything is these days, 40% inflation markup on everything

I would love to see a under $20TB per TB again for sure, I guess those ones only come round every 5 years

        • +1

The ~$15/TB sale was a price error where Amazon accidentally made AUD = USD on top of a sale so it is unlikely to reoccur.

          • @eecan: Thanks for clarifying eeclan, makes me somewhat less depressed

Picked up two of the 18TB in that deal. Was bonkers!

For people in VIC this might be slightly cheaper

Nice find Penny, thanks for sharing

  • I'll buy it after it fails and ends up as an East Digital factory refurb
