We are trying to book a trip to Malaysia in July school holidays and have found all the prices to be really high. Any suggestions on the best place to visit for a decent price?

Yeah true that, and I should have said when I first checked about a month ago it was much cheaper. We weren’t 100% set then so to see the price so high now was a shock. I guess they won’t come down now so I just have to bite the bullet, where is the best place to book?

@bobwokeup: I'd rather pay $575 per adult but $975 is still very reasonable for an overseas return flight during school holidays.

OP admits they checked prices and a month earlier they were much cheaper!Best advice I can offer is to check flights up to 3 days before and after as airfares apply to specific flight dates and even times and how many seats are available on those flights.
Safest place to book is with the airline and accommodation direct.
The closer you get to the flight date the less seats are available, the higher the price goes.
Rule of thumb: book as early as possible and don’t pass up a good deal hoping for a better one later. Especially with airfares!

Go a few days earlier, outside the school holidays. Meet up with the others when they arrive.
Why not ask what the others are doing.
They would have a better idea
Google flights for searching for fares and agoda for accomodation, but also use google maps to check for accomodation too and price check sometimes it's cheaper than agoda, on the map click on hotels and you can search by map and date.

Do you want to book for travel that will take place during the July school holidays or do you want to do the booking during the July school holidays?
What are you actually looking for - a cheap flight to Malaysia, a cheap place to stay in Malaysia, a cheap location to go in July that isnt necessarily Malaysia? Do you want a resort or hang out at KL or Georgetown or ???
Go to KL and spend a couple of days, and then go to Penang and hang out at a resort..
Malaysian Airlines Holidays. My family 2 adult and 1 child, flew from Syd to KL with 10 nights accommodation for under $5000. This was winter school holidays 2023.
School holidays are always the most expensive times to travel regardless of destination.
