CTP Car Insurance Qld - Reminder to Switch Annually to Receive Gift/Caltex Card

200

This deal is available each year when you pay your car rego.
Always change your Qld CTP insurer and they will provide you with either a gift card or fuel card.
EG: Suncorp = $20 Gift card or Allianz = $25 Caltex fuel card

Check insurers websites as they have banners advertising the deal, which will lead you to your Motoring Authority's website, where you log in using your CRN or drivers licence number.
It is here you must change your CTP provider for the next (12 months) rego. Then when you pay your rego (by the due date like any good OB'er) this will initiate the new insurer to post out your money.

All Qld insurers charge the same for CTP - if in another state, check CTP costs firstly. No point paying $30 more for a free $20 giftcard.

    Good Deal,

I got $10 off on my RACQ membership if i choose RACQ as CTP provider.

    • Is this in NSW Zhang?

      • +1

I think RACQ is for Queenslanders only (I was asked to switch to RACV when i moved to Victoria.

My CTP is also with RACQ, as an Ozbargainer I should take this deal to get the extra $15, the only thing stops me is I do like RACQ considering the number of times they rescued me on the road during recent years.

        • Bundling CTP with other insurances gives a greater %off than $20 from Suncorp CTP.

    • Allianz $25 vs. RACQ $10;
      Sunshine Coast Zhang?

So I can actually change the CTP insurer shown on the Regi Renewal Notice sent by WA Dept of Planning and Infra? Can someone post a step by step? TIA

    • Ctp in wa is State issued only.

      • Although there is no bonus cards in WA, I reckon its cheaper than other states any way.

To OP, you should have posted in November mate, its 3 months too late, but will do for next year.
        lol

        • TIP: As soon as you get your rego bill in the post each year - go to Allianz/Suncorp website and switch back and forth.
Then later on when you pay your rego (by the due date - interweb, Post Office etc) your gift card is automatically posted out.

  • Hi all,

Quick qn. If I already have comprehensive insurance in NSW, do I need to bother with CTP?

    • +3

      yes….
and you can't register your car without one anyway as it won't let you…

CTP = covers the people (not their vehicles/possessions) you injure if you are at fault
comprehensive = covers their and your vehicle/possessions if you are at fault..

They need to make basic questions like this part of getting a licence

      • +1

They need to make the naming convention clearer.
FYI for anyone else CTP stands for "Compulsory Third Party"

    • Do you need a licence to drive ?
CTP = COMPULSORY Third Party, can't buy rego without it.

Comprehesive car insurance is totally different - and is not compulsory, unfortunately - hence the need for CTP
Note: CTP doesnt cover property ie cars - just victims ie pedestrians, other motorists if you hit them with your car. If you have no CTP ie no rego, you can do jail time if serious enough.

      FYI: Be bothered :-)

No there is a site where you can compare the quotes. Yes, in some cases the quotes may all be the same, but in my case Allianz was $10 less.

And what do you mean by "motoring authority website"? Is that RACQ? So is this deal only for RACQ members?

    • Qld Authority = (QT)Queensland Transport.
NSW Authority = (RTA) Road Transport Authority
WA Authority = (DOT) Department of Transport
      VIC Authority = VICroads
TAS Authority = (DIER) Department of Infrastructure, Energy & Resources
NT Authority = (MVR) Motor Vehicle Resgistry, Department of Transport
RACQ = motoring club (for members)

      ..Allianz less $10, nice.

    • What's the comparison site ?
I'll switch back to Allianz for $25 fuelcard and $10 off next year.

  • Thanks OP - just switched to Allianz for that $25 fuel card offer.

  • Thanks - rego papers just arrived yesterday - good timing.

  • Nice, thanks :)

  • A word of WARNING!!!! Suncorp is the ONLY CTP insurer that I know of providing injury cover for you, the DRIVER as well as passengers, & other 3rd party (e.g. pedestrians, passengers in other vehicle etc). A friend was recently in an accident (no fault to her-it was other driver's fault) , but, as the driver, she had no cover from her own CTP provider. It's costing her a fortune for Physio, medical etc - other driver was drunk & in stolen & unregistered vehicle - so no insurance cover for her from him.

    • Comprehensive should be compulsory for this very reason - it would also reduce the exhorbitant cost.

I'll switch back over to Suncorp again next year.

      From Allianz website:
According to law, QLD CTP policies do not cover injuries sustained by the driver that is at fault in a motor vehicle accident. However, when you receive your Registration Renewal Notice and renew your motor vehicle registration with Allianz as your CTP Insurer, you may be entitled to receive a bonus At Fault Driver Protection policy.*
This policy provides up to $1,000,000 of cover for certain serious injuries you may sustain if you are the at fault driver in an accident, at no extra cost.

Wouldnt have helped your friend though.

      • Why not just have this http://www.tac.vic.gov.au/about-us/overview (as in VIC). No point have to pay comprehensive if you don't want an old car you are driving to be covered (when they would just write it off due to the cost of labour/parts to repair). Allows us to pay for what we want covered, in this case our bodies rather than an old car.

  • my rego only due in june but i already got my $20 coles gift card. i am suprised that they send out hte gift card before the switch. i wonder if i can now sign up to allianz ctp promo and switch to them before my rego is due in june? would suncorp ask for the $20 gift back as they would be out of pocket if it isnt switched to them?
