Maybe I’ve had a run of lemons, have this machine(s) which have had multiple issues. First wore out the drum bearings just out of warranty, replaced with another at a discount through F&P. Replacement control panel started glitching within the week, F&P replaced this with another new machine. This also developed the same issue a couple weeks later, this time repaired. Now a few months later the problem is back.

Not sure what’s happening with F&P, if they made a heap of defective machines and decided to fix this after delivery or worse if they don’t know how.

    • I just purchased an Electrolux yesterday from AO as I needed to upsize. I came from an F&P and had it for around 10 years with no issues. I wanted to go with the brand again but saw the same reviews with quality issues. Always a mix bag with electronics but majority of the good ones I have read about with WM (although there could still be lemons in any brand) are Bosch german-made, LG and Electrolux.

The definite no-nos seems to be from Samsung.

    • also, I will probably ask for a refund from your retailer/manufacturer if the issue still persists after multiple repair attempts. ACCC rights and all that.

Your are not alone - 8.5kg model bought back in 2nd half 2022 also got bearings issue.
      Also the door seal gone.

Fish & Pakyel is now owned by Haier and washing machines are now made in China so be aware.

  • can vouch for that, bought one in 2018 and still going strong without issue.

  • Had this machine, just replaced it with a Bosch.

Worked well for the first 2 years then started leaving oil-like marks on clothes. Probably happened once every 10 loads. Daughter began to look like a mechanic.

    Couldn't find a solution anywhere.

  • This deal vs the Westinghouse WWF1044M7WA?

if you want the option of cold water on every wash program then the F&P is your best bet.
the Westinghouse only allows cold water option on limited number of wash programs.

  • That's cheap….I have the same machine.

I bought one of these a while ago.
I found F&P to be the worst quality in both dryers and washers.

I went with F&P as we wanted a matching set with tthe heat pump dryer they offer and the energy savings from that, as well it's always been a reputable brand.

I'm a sparky & an EE so I'm happy to repair it's just annoying to spend time on this stuff.

    So far with the washer:
    - bearings worn out twice.Replaced at cost under $100 each time. But disassembling the whole bloody thing is a pain in the butt.
    - heating element worn out twice. Replaced at cost under $50 each time. Second failure occured within 6 months of the first.

    With the dryer:
    - latch broke so I could no longer close dryer. Turns out if you close it quickly it snaps the plastic latch so it will no longer mount to the metal chassis. Terrible design. Not slamming just simply closing it in a non slow, deliberate, gentle manner. This fix was quite the pain in the butt to do as you have to disassemble a lot of the dryer to get to the part. I'd say it's one of the harder repairs out of the washer and dryer set.
    - bearings are wearing out at present but I'm holding off on another disassembly as I frankly don't have the time to keep doing this.

I'm sure there's been more but I'm sick as heck today and unable to think very clearly. I'd recommend Bosch after this experience. I'm sure in a not too distant future I'll just update these from being sick of disassembling and reassembling for the same parts.

The bearings in both of them are solid plastic bearings, so that they will always have a limited lifespan. I'd say they're designed to last exactly as long as the warranty.

  • Just buy LG washing machines, you can’t go wrong probably.
Check out the Maytag guy USA repair channel on YouTube.
They recommend LG as it’s their least seen brand needing repairs.
They also do have a different range of brands over there though,

    • Had the worst experience with LG - autodosr didn’t work and custoner service solution was “don’t use it”

Took weeks and complaint to fair trading to get any attention and eventually a refund

      • Yes the autodosers models break kind of like ice makers on fridges,
Kiss rule and don't buy that model.

  • Avoid F & P. I moved into a house that's only 2 years old, all fp appliances. There's literally a problem with every single appliance…after only 2 years. Dishwasher won't dissolve the tablet..light on rangehood is not working, rangehood is SO LOUD. Stove top is scratched up and difficult to clean. Chinese cheap crap. Only thing I can't fault so far is The ovens, touch wood.

  • F&P is NOT what they used to be. Been taken over by Haier. Don't put your hopes too high.

  • I'm glad to see people here are aware of that Fisher Paykel is effectively Haier so these product are made in China.

The positive at this price is the Direct Drive motor as it will run quieter than most machines in this price point such as the Westinghouse deal that was recently posted.
The negative is this is the "Quick Smart" model which is any machine model ending with "J3", this means it is the de-featured spec machine so lower RPM, less cycles and a big one some some is the ability to open the door after starting the cycle.
