Presumably free now because you are the product.

The new terms of service allow them to collect all kinds of inappropriate data from you.

Whether they do it or not I don't know. I believe spyware claims were fake?

You will get downvoted because OzBargain users will hand over their first born for a deal especially if it’s a freebie. But you are correct, some weird business with their EULA.

      • +4

No. He is going to be upvoted just to spite you. lol. Children.

      • -1

Some people even hand over their credit file for literally $5, not even a Big Mac.

        • -3

You must be like 50 if you think Big Macs are relevant today lol

      • Posts like this make me cringe

        You will get downvoted

        Really?

        • Comment was being downvoted at the time of writing. I will refrain from such wording moving forward.

Yup, to add on, here’s the new EULA:

      Collected Data Types:

      • Identifiers / Contact Information: Name, user name, gamertag, postal and email address, phone number, unique IDs, mobile device ID, platform ID, gaming service ID, advertising ID (IDFA, Android ID) and IP address

      • Protected Characteristics: Age and gender

      • Commercial Information: Purchase and usage history and preferences, including gameplay information

      • Billing Information: Payment information (credit / debit card information) and shipping address

      • Internet / Electronic Activity: Web / app browsing and gameplay information related to the Services; information about your online interaction(s) with the Services or our advertising; and details about the games and platforms you use and other information related to installed applications

      • Device and Usage Data: Device type, software and hardware details, language settings, browser type and version, operating system, and information about how users use and interact with the Services (e.g., content viewed, pages visited, clicks, scrolls)

      • Profile Inferences: Inferences made from your information and web activity to help create a personalized profile so we can identify goods and services that may be of interest

      • Audio / Visual Information: Account photos, images, and avatars, audio information via chat features and functionality, and gameplay recordings and video footage (such as when you participate in playtesting)

      • Sensitive Information: Precise location information (if you allow the Services to collect your location), account credentials (user name and password), and contents of communications via chat features and functionality.

Just play without the internet then?
Also, wasn’t there a rootkit clause? Because I can’t find it.

        • +3

Not sure if they collect half of it during installation. If they do, you need internet to install it.

      • +3

        Insane

      • +12

For what it’s worth, it’s good to hear the other side of the argument.

        https://www.pcgamer.com/games/fps/borderlands-is-the-latest-…

TLDR: the new EULA is probably no different to what it was in terms of data gathering from users in the previous EULA

      • +1

        That’s cooked.

      • +2

Hmm for the forced arbitration clause, seems like we're excluded:

Forced arbitration clause and a waiver of class action and jury trial rights for all users residing in the United States and any other territory other than Australia, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, or The Territories of The European Economic Area

But yeah, the data collected is on the heavy side - reminds me of some free mobile type games.

        Developer just responded

Response to Recent Community Concerns About Take-Two’s Terms of Service
        Hi everyone -

We know there have been some concerns from Borderlands fans about Take-Two’s Terms of Service. Maintaining transparency and confidence with the community here is always our goal, and we wanted to address some of these concerns.

        (1) Take-Two Does Not Use Spyware
Take-Two does not use spyware in its games. Take-Two’s Privacy Policy applies to all labels, studios, games, and services across all media and platform types such as console, PC, mobile app, and website. The Privacy Policy identifies the data activities that may be collected but this does not mean that every example is collected in each game or service.

Take-Two identifies these practices in its Privacy Policy to provide transparency to players and comply with its legal obligations. Take-Two collects this information to deliver its services to players, including to protect the game environment and player experience. You can read more about this in the Privacy Policy.

For example, player and device identifiers are collected in part to ensure the game is compatible with each player’s media, platform or website browser type. It allows us to better understand how players play games, and to personalize the user experience (like having usernames show up!). Account credentials are collected from users who choose to create accounts with Take-Two and its labels.

        (2) Take-Two Does Not Permit Abusive Mods
Take-Two’s Terms of Service prohibit mods that allow users to gain an unfair advantage, negatively impact the ability of other users to enjoy the game as intended, or allow users to gain access to content that the user is not entitled to. We do this to protect the integrity of the game experience for all users. Take-Two generally does not seek to take action against mods that are single-player only, non-commercial, and respect the intellectual property (IP) rights of its labels and third parties.

    • Is that why we have a buy option as well for 6 bux? No data collection on that?

    • +3

      inappropriate data from you

      Oh no my kinks…

    • +6

You are already a product for alot of the big companies. Unless you're using a dumbphone, your phone is already collecting and sending way more personal data to companies than a video game is doing.

      • +2

Graphene, Lineage and Ubutu are phone OS's that people can use to help stop that.

    • i remember finishing this on the Vita and PC lol

    • If one were to wait till the deal expires and buys it or redeems a code, does the more demanding EULA still apply?

      • Yes, the change was made well before the free promotion started.

    • I may be wrong but I believe a lot of this data collection is necessary for countries like China who have strict rules on gaming hours and time spent online. I don't know if it is tracked or collected outside these countries it is merely there for a coverall perspective.

  • Thanks OP.

Looks like will be great for the steam deck as well.

    • Runs really well on the steam deck OLED. Im running it locked at 72hz and haven't noticed any drops even on max settings

      • +3

its because its a very old game man lol they had it on the PS VITA!! given the age of that console it will reveal how old that game is.

        • -4

Relevance to saying it works well on the deck?

          • +1

@boxall: because its a very old game man lol they had it on the PS VITA!! given the age of that console it will reveal how old that game is.

  • -1

I added this but will never play it. Games are too many too frequent these days and with all this extra content made to keep us on screens I never have time to play recently released games let alone old games and that are average at best.

    • +7

old games and that are average at best.

I mean, that doesn't describe BL2? One of the best games of the last decade

      • Ok i went abit far with that. Maybe im just old. I haven't play 2 but played 3 and i got over it halfway.

        • I never finished BL3 (lost interest) but completed all the ones prior to 3 if that helps. 2 is definitely the best and worth giving a go.

        • Those games are critically acclaimed. You can't just say 'they're average'.
Maybe to you but i replay all 3 games frequently.

      • +1

Agree, I put solid weeks into the BL series, so much fun.

    • I added this but will never play it.

You know there is a game on Ozbargain where you add as many free games as you can without playing any of them.

I think I might be in the top 1000 players.

  • +1

    EXPLOSIONS?

  • +2

Just FYI try BL3 quickly if you buy it. It randomly does not work on some systems and the devs will not support it, and Steam won't refund if you wait too long.

  • +2

    bloody annoying claptrap

    • I'd like to see Claptrap fight Wall-E in Robot Wars. I don't care who wins just as long as they both get smashed.

  • spyware

    • -1

      Neg away biatches

      • You salty about…… digital downvotes? Bruhhh

        • Nah, I think it's funnier if the person doubles down and doesn't care about staying in the positive.

  • +4

You probably already have Borderlands 3 in your Epic library, don't need to spend more to rebuy on Steam

  • Good deal.
