Hi guys,
I recently purchased an item from Kmart that I now need to return for a refund.
However, the card I originally used for the purchase has since been cancelled due to being compromised, and I’ve been issued a new one.
In this situation, how will the refund be processed?
Last time I was advised that refunds go back to the original card, but since that card is no longer active, I’m unsure how this will work.
Would it be possible to receive a store voucher instead?

It will go to the new "card".
Card is the "method" of how to pay. Card doesnt hold money. The money sitting in the account. Since the old card doesnt link to account anymore, when payment bounces back to that "cancelled" card, it will refund to the account.
Alternatively, ask for store credit and use them next time at any kmart.

They just print out a receipt for me for store credit.
Yes, standard for online purchase, a refund is typically issued back to the original payment method used, such as the credit card or debit card.
Kmart will get this sort of stuff all the time and can advise you on how to proceed. The bank is also smart enough to know that the refund amount is going to a cancelled card previously linked to your account and will let you know you have received a refund.
