other than apollo, the other 2 have been in bundles before, so it will work out cheaper to wait for bundles to buy them

Obviously the release dates are the main reason, but there's just no way AJ Trilogy is worth nearly three times the original trilogy.

As an aside if people want a more standalone story, get Ghost Trick - 50% off. There's also a demo.

    • The later Ace Attorney games did go up in production quality (and cost). For example from that electro-synth 8/16- bit sound to orchestra.

The later games also included anime cutscenes such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjyAPez3ovQ so that would have bump up production cost as well.

      • I am sure the production cost was higher, but I am not sure that translates to 3x value to the end user for AJ. 16-bit sound soundtracks in the originals still absolutely slap and the art has aged pretty gracefully.

For anyone deciding, I would definitely recommend starting on the original trilogy, then EITHER Investigations or Apollo Justice. Great Ace Attorney kind of whenever - it's set way in the past.

    • Yeah this is really annoying too for some of us. AJ standalone barely exists in English anymore because it was - I believe - only an original DS game and never got remade or moved to a later platform (other than an iOS version) until this bundle came out.

Thusly, it's the game many latecomers didn't play because there was limited practical ways to do so. So they stick it in this expensive pack with two games most of us played on release (and wouldn't buy again) and keep the price high because 'technically' the pack is great value if you haven't played DD or SoJ.

I'm still waiting for this to become a reasonable price so I can just do AJ - as it's the only game in the series I haven't played.

  • Do I dare purchase them on yet another platform ? YES

  • Which one to buy ? For first time newcomers to the series

Buy the original trilogy first. Then go for others after you’ve finished that if you’re still keen.

Definitely the original Phoenix Wright Trilogy first.

Not only is it cheaper anyway, so less of a sting if the games simply don't click with you, it's the natural entry point to all the important characters and mechanics that becomes staples (as well as their evolution) throughout the series.

  • Same price on xbox, play anywhere.
