I find the ClearWipe very dry and went back to the Zeiss wipes. With the zeiss ones, I can wipe two pairs of glasses.

    • yes, you wont go back

    • +1

Yes Clearwipes seem stingy with the cleaning fluid

    No delivery to remote areas!

  • +1

yes kinda have to be quick to even do 1 glasses. won't work if it's heavy grease from barbeques

  • +1

Are these safe to use on camera lenses?

  • +6

am I crazy? I just use dishwashing soap water with my fingers then dry them with paper towel…. never had an issue or seed the point of microfiber cloths or special wipes…

    • +3

No you are normal, just not fancy.. I am too

    • +1

I used to buy glass cleaner sprays from Specsavers. Now I just refill their spay bottles with heavily diluted dishwasher liquid and it works amazingly.

    • It’s convenience that you pay for. Something like water bottle. For those who carry their own bottles, water from
      Supermarket is waste.

    • +3

I just fog up my glasses lens with my breath and wipe them down on my shirt, never saw reason to do anything different.

    • +4

I did that with my old pair and it stripped the anti reflective coating, or some kind of coating. They look terrible now. I only wear them to the gym because I don't want to get my "good glasses" sweaty.

Not doubting you at all, but I have transition, anti-glare, UV protection lenses, and I haven't noticed any damage after four years of doing this.

        • +1

Maybe the Chinese company just put the coating on wrong.

        • Are you measuring the water/isopropyl alcohol (IPA) ratio (e.g. 70/30)? It's not an issue if you're doing that - these type of commercial cleaners are just convenience products because they do that for you.

If you not bothering with measuring the ratio and you haven't noticed any damage to your lense, then it's highly likely you were ripped off and that the lense never had coating to begin with. High concentrations of isopropyl alcohol will basically strip anything. It's just the nature of it being an aggressive solvent when used with high concentrations.

@Tyrx: They said they used dishwashing soap. I don't feel ripped off when my dishwashing soap isn't pure isopropyl alcohol πŸ˜…

    • I just squint and the dirtiness goes away.

    • +1

Paper towel or tissues can scratch your glasses

    • +1

That's fine when you're at home, but I don't normally carry "dishwashing soap water" around with me when I'm out and about.

  • +1

Thanks OP! Got one of these and the Zeiss πŸ˜‰

  • +1

Just use the free cloth that comes with your glasses. Or better yet, use liquid or foaming hand wash or dishwashing liquid, rinse with water and dry with a tissue.

  • I keep a bottle of isopropyl alcohol in the car and the house which does a great job

This removes any coating you have on the lenses, from experience.

      • It is chemically the same stuff, you just need to dilute it with water.

      • 50% with distilled water and many say add a drop of detergent.

    • +1

I got 5L for $20 from a deal on here. Way cheaper in bulk. Can be used to clean other stuff too. Watered down in smaller bottle.

Just a heads up everyone, am an optometrist and worked in an optical store for 4+ years. We usually try to get people to avoid these wipes especially if they have an antireflective coating on their lenses as it contains isopropyl alcohol which overtime with constant use can lead to the coating literally peeling off. If you would prefer wipes, as suggested by others, the Zeiss wipes are alcohol free and a much better alternative. If not a simple diluted detergent solution will work better at cleaning lenses as well.

    • Yeah my wife wrecked my Oakleys by using these for me randomly.

    • +8

Ingredients on the Zeiss box : Water, isopropyl alcohol, proprietary detergents and preservatives.

      • Oops my bad I did not know that, you are indeed correct.

  • +1

Clearwipe are trash. Brightwipe are so much better.

But a soapy wash is best.

    • Agree, soap in warm water is is best.

    • +1

Thanks, I'll try Brightwipes next time. I find Clearwipes too small and not damp enough.

  • Deal aside, if you're using Zeiss you'd be like: wtf is this?

  • +1

I just use soap to wash and tissue to dry

  • I use bowdens glass cleaner, spray bottle
    Naked glass apparently

  • Nah I just use petrol and set on fire after, works like charm

    • This damages the coating.

Price has gone up to $7.20 as non S&S price, ($6.48 with S&S)
