    Dont waste your money

This is a waste of money

    • +1

      What are the alternatives?

Obviously if you have air conditioning in the room you want to heat that is far superior but if you don’t?

      • +2

        Heated throw blanket.

        • Hell yeah! I'm saving heaps by not having to put the split system on.

  • Waste of money and is $44 not also just the RRP?

  • +8

Dont waste your money or time, a heater like this will fill a large room in know time.

and it will also rack up your power bill in know no time.

  • +2

I think i paid like $30 for this in kmart

    • Hmm, cant find the Kmart one, is it still around?

Is radiant heater better or an oil heater?

    (For skin/scalp issues)

    • +1

All heaters are equally efficient. It depends on where you what the heat. Oil heaters are generally safer but would require good air circulation to get the heat that just rises to the ceiling.

    • +4

Oil heater retains heat better once you turn it off, and that's where it wins.
Radiant heater wins for 'in the moment' feels but you're just burning money really.

      • +2

I guess, but the retained heat is just the heat it stored before it gave any off.
A radiant heater is effective in seconds, which is where this or a fan heater is useful.

All cost too much to run.

Why is everyone so negative about this?

These are great at turning a decent amount of money into a 50cm radius of heat

    • -2

Why is everyone so positive about this comment?

They're not necessarily efficient but will absolutely warm a room up.

      • +1

It is perfectly efficient at converting power to warmth, just that 5 times as much is needed compared to a reverse cycle aircon.

  • +2

    careful near curtains !!

    • -1

      near curtains

      iron ?

You shouldnt be Putin them there.

  • +1

Better off with a ceremic fan heater. Radiant heaters like this are junk.

  • +3

    Just rug up….

But for small areas (like a bedroom) I think a oil heater is better.

    • +2

I think a oil heater is better.

Takes too long to warm up the room.

Click 3 Bar Radiant Heater $44

This is normally $40. Why is it a bargain?

These are the worst for starting fires if something falls on them

    • +6

I think you meant to say "the best for starting fires" πŸ˜…

  • +1

Don't waste your money. Get a rope from Aisle 10, Bay 8 and lower this heater over the fence in the garden section.

    • πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  • Do not waste your money or time. It is irrelevant.

  • Which is more cost efficient? This or air conditioning

    • +3

A reverse cycle AC is more efficient since it extracts heat from the environment making it more than 100% efficient. All other electric heaters are the same, basically resistors that turn electricity into heat.

    • +2

If an aircon costs $2000, it would pay for itself in saved power after about 4000 hours.
      (@25c/kWh and 4x COP)

And at 33c per kWh and 5x COP, which is probably more realistic, about 3000hours.
If you use the heater 100 days a year, from 5pm to 10:30pm (sounds reasonable for Sydney?) about 6 years of use.

    • Well reason for this is air con is not pushing enough heat. Might need a new one.

  • +1

Be careful of your Energy Bill , they are not Efficient!

    • Opposite really, unless you consider 100% inefficient? Basically electric heaters are the exception as heat is the entire point unlike other electronics where they generate heat as a by product. They are expensive to run as electricity is expensive and Australian homes tend to not be very energy efficient so too much heat is lost. Gas heaters are actually less efficient, especially an older one. Gas is very energy dense though and was traditionally cheap. Most efficient heating I'd imagine would be hydronic with a heat pump furnace. Heat pump so again more than 100% efficient but pumping water through pipes should use less energy than blowing air. Like the oil heater though, slow, then you really need to turn it off ahead of time to due to the residual heat in the system.

      • unless you consider 100% inefficient

        Yes.

A modern aircon unit can be as much as 500% efficient.

100% efficiency is terrible for electric heating.

It turns out all i needed was some clothes from kmart πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Imho— I've used one like this for a few years now + ceiling fan on low pushing air down. Amazing job heating a large area. PS: We mainly run it for our little old lady, Jynx- a rex cat. We humans just rug up, but she doesn't fancy anything put on her- lol.
