Coles Simply Coffee Beans

Has anyone tired tried the new Coles Simply coffee beans? Not too bad at $15 for 1kg. Does anyone know who makes them? Grinders maybe?

Looks like Woolworths does one, for the same price

Aldi also has a 1kg of Dark Roast beans for $15 and Medium for $17. Been using using the Medium beans for the last year and it goes alright but I'm drinking milk coffees so I'm not too fussy.

    • Sadly there is no ALDI in Darwin yet. I love the Harris coffee

right now, Coles Daley Street is on special again for $20. Not bad.

We buy the coles urban medium for $18/bag. It used to be $15 up until a few weeks ago and we enjoy the taste. Did not know there was a new option available too.

Try the "Daley Street beans" they are delicious, it is a Coles brand roasted in Melbourne but is not obviously marked as Coles.

And these beans in the yellow packaging was $12/kg until about a month ago too.
The more reviews and social media chatter, the easier to justify gouging.
Oh well, we enjoyed cheap coffee for a while.

    Yes, very tired…

That's why you need a coffee pick me up

  • Does anyone know who makes them?

    Oompa Loompas…

  • Dark Roast = minimal nutrients

    • Why?

      • Burnt it.

      coffee has nutrients?!

A cup of black coffee provides small amounts of:

        • Potassium (118mg)
        • Magnesium (7.2mg)
        • Phosphorus (7.1mg)
        • Manganese (0.1mg)
        • Folate (4.7mcg)
        • Choline (6.2mg)
        • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin)
        • Vitamin B3 (Niacin).
    • But less toxins

Yummy, love my daily dose of glyphosate and salicylic acid, don't forget to double up with wheatbix !!

    • Lets not forget mycotoxins as well. Coffee is quite susceptible to disease thus it is one of the more sprayed and treated crops.

How fresh they are plays a large part. A lot of the supermarket beans sit around for months and taste like crap no matter which brand it is. Lavazza is the only brand I know of that packs them in an inert gas to keep them fresh.

Do they print the roast date on the pack?

      If not, I'd avoid them.

      • No roast date, just a best before which I believe is 2 years after the roast date (same as Grinders). These come all the way from Italy so finding a pack less than a few months old is hard.

2 years after the roast date

          😲

So much for making a fresh cup of coffee…

    • Heat, moisture, light and oxygen are bad. But isn't inert gas is getting a bit silly?

Considering a 1kg coffee bag holds about 1g of air, so only 0.2g of oxygen, a sealed bag with dry air is good.
What I do notice is that pre-ground coffee loses aroma very quickly once opened.

      • isn't inert gas is getting a bit silly?

Not if your name is Clark…

        • Lavazza put an outlet valve in the bag, so I assume they are bagged while still out-gassing after roasting, and the "inert gas" is mostly CO2.

          • @bargaino:

and the "inert gas" is mostly CO2

            Why not Krypton?

    • illy does this as well, hence their tins have shelf life of ~3 years (much longer, in reality).

Life is too short to buy coffee beans from Coles.

ive tried the $15 bag from woolies. Its pretty good im happy with it. I dont feel its a compromise I do enjoy it.
Some times they have italian ones on special for $20.
I had to kick myself though. They were $12 prior week and i decided not to get that week as I still had 250g of another pack then the price went up.

these are a new range (700g) but come with strong flavours for those that prefer a strong blend

The Coles premium brand "Daley Street" coffee beans are really good. Roasted in Melbourne. Worth paying more rather than wasting your money on this. You would not even know it was a Coles brand unless you read the fine print on packaging.

    • These have a roast date on the pack as well and make a nice cup of coffee. I never knew they were a Coles brand, I guess that explains why you can often find a pack less than a month old.

  • I didn't like the Simply ones personally.

My pref in that price range is Aldi Dark, Woolies, last would be Simply.

They've just increased prices again though, $15 is now $18, $18 is now $20 (Coles yet to follow suit so buy em now before they do)

  • Coles Daley Street on special from tomorrow for $22.

Screw Aldi, I can buy Grinders on Amazon with S&S for $25! The only thing get people going for the Aldi Beans is because its low cost. Now the price has shoot up 100% in one year, seems the whole Aldi pricing is now FOS!
