Can you use the gift card on the same purchase?

    • No

    • +1

Just buy another one then you can use the gift card on that one.

      • +1

        then return the 1st one

        • +3

return to HN is a big pain.

        • "In the case of a refund of the purchased item and the gift card is unable to be returned, the value of gift card must be deducted from the refunded amount."

You buy for $268 and get a $50 gift card
          -$268 +1 phone +1 $50 gift card

You buy the second one for 218 and use the gift card.
-$486 2 phones no gift card

You return the first phone, they only give you back $218 as you are unable to return the gift card value.
End balance: -$268 +1 phone 0 gift card

edit: man, i need coffee. you end up -268, +1 phone +1 gift card (from the second purchase) but this is just the same as the first step.

I feel like I must be doing something wrong here.. this sounds like you end up with a worse deal the exact same outcome as step 1 just more steps?

      Thanks

G85 is getting close to clearance-prices…G86 already released

  • If someone bought it, could you check if this is dual SIM cards model?

Insert or remove the cards as needed.
To use an SD card and a SIM card:
Or, to use two physical SIM cards (not available on all models):

    • +1

The Australian model is Dual SIM: eSIM + nano SIM

      • Thank you. No two physical SIMs then.

    • i believe eSim dual sim, this was actually the deal breaker for me as it was for older folks needing 2 physical sim, still great deal if this didnt matter to others

      Thanks WatchNerd

  • do you get the giftcard right away? if so we can potentially do an ozbargain daisy chain to reclaim the full value of the giftcard by selling your giftcard to the next ozb whos buying this phone and so on.

Bonus eGift cards are emailed upon order completion

my G75 arrived, I think I'm mostly happy with it but the size i need to get used to…

    • +1

Once you go big it's hard to go back to a small one.

      • I'm honestly finding it a bit hard to hold with one hand. maybe i need a different case.

feels like a two hander phone…. also i believe I've got decently big hands already so yeah 0_0.

don't mind the extra height exactly but the width is the issue.

    • +1
      • in some metrics, yes, but the G85 is superior in:
        significantly lighter
better screen - OLED and higher PPI
better form factor with a higher screen-to-body ratio

        • +1

Screen quality doesn't matter anymore. There is no really bad screens. It's just a marketing spin. Weight is pretty similar on all phones, so unimportant. All that matters is screen size (I like bigger the better and would never buy anything smaller than a 6.7 (still way smaller than my mi maxes), no matter the specs. Second most important is ram, then storage. After that is what's become a bonus now, sd card and ear phone jack. I would take either of them over the worst screen or weight. I would take 64gb with sd card over 512gb with no sd card. Last (or for some people first, the most important is the camera. That's should be the only reason people are willing to pay over a thousand for a phone like samsung or apple. Not important to me. Just want a decent one, doesn't need to be anything special. The camera in g75 is way better than I need.

      • interesting that the gsmarena page there shows the rrp of the g75 being more and that the g85 comes w 256gb storage but these 128gb models is a big downside for me.

i refuse to buy another new device that has 128gb or less

        • G75 has microSD slot.

          • @RTX9090Ti: yep!

tho i haven't checked, it takes up a physical sim slot tho aye?

            • @AeymothSky: not sure, I assume it can take up nano sim, microSD and eSim, 3 at once.

              • @RTX9090Ti: I'll check haha

              • +2

@RTX9090Ti: ok (profanity) yeah it's not a combined slot.

                It's sdcard, sim1 seperate!

and yeah esim. so can dualsim with one physical active and sdcard storage expansion!

  • +2

I use this cheap case for my G85, much better than the clear one included - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/126079582405

  • Amyone know how the G85 fares against the G84?

    • Yup it's 84 + 1
      One step ahead

      • :|

      • More like 10 steps back

    • Less RAM and storage

  • Can confirm this is a great choice of phone if the camera isn't very important to you.

I prefer this one to the g84.

    • -1

Yeah camera a shy-ete on this

  • +5

    Congrats on the 1k posts.
Gerry Harvey's mob, in their own inimitable way have mixed the RAM (128GB) with the onboard storage memory (8GB) on the spec page.
128GB RAM, now that would be something

    • 🤣🤣🤣

  • My g75 arrived and it looks amazing 😍

I'm trying to see how this is better than the Oppo 5G phone I bought a couple of years ago. Snapdragon. 8GB RAM. 128GB storage. 50 Mpixel camera. 5000 mAhr battery. MicroSD slot. NFC. 33W charger. Android. All I can see is the eSIM, which is of no value to me, and a newer version of Android. In fact if it hadn't had the dreaded 3G issue, and been bricked by that, the previous OnePlus 5G phone I bought a couple of years before that one would be pretty close to as good on spec.

Are Android phones actually going anywhere? What happened to Moore's Law? It still seems to apply to my PCs.

    • Moore's law is dead for PCs too.

  • +6

Don't like curved screen it's harder to fit a screen protector.

    • Had mine a year and its scratched as fark. Still not a bad screen

  • -4

This is not a bad deal however 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is too low imo for nowadays. You would want a phone with at least 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage for it to run efficiently.

    Congratulations on your 1k posts.✨⭐️⭐️

For anyone that is curious, Motorola have started releasing successors, so this pricing is expected at this point of the cycle.

    https://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_debuts_its_moto_g56_g86_an…

If your current phone is fine, but you are suffering from FOMO, don't stress.
The G56, G86, etc will probably be the same price in due time.

Thanks op. Got one for daughters birthday coming up in 2 weeks. Not a big user and her old one is an oppo A15 so gonna be a big improvement. Harvey didn't have cases. Thought use the $50 voucher.

    • +2

A basic case is included but eBay has cheap cases.

This is a very big upgrade from that Oppo.

      • +1

Thanks. And congrats on 1000 posts. Appreciate it.

  • i'm in hunting for new phone…dual sims is deal breaker for me dual esims with physical sims aka esim/esims-physical/esims. i read one of website new model have it..

  • Just a precaution for those interested in buying this phone. Got one for my Mum 2 months ago from a JB HiFi sale. Latest update is preventing the phone from charging unless you plug in the cable and restart the phone. It was previously fixed via an update but it seems to have come back from the latest update. Checked the Lenovo forums and it is a common issue. As far as I can see this is a software and not a hardware issue. Hopefully they fix it soon.

  • +1

    Thanks ordered one.

  • Bought a G85 last year from HN and happy with mine.

  • Price is now $247 but no gift card which might be better for some.
