Car Detailing at Home - Recommendations

Hey All,

I got a Royal Blue Euro car and would like to detail this at home. If someone can give me some tips and feedback on my process that would be much appreciated. Previously I had a dark grey car and I took tips from OzB post but can’t find the thread anymore. Below are the products and machine I’ll be using.

I have two scratches on the paint and need to use the touch up paint which I bought from the dealership. It came with touch up paint and lacquer.

Steps
1. Two bucket wash and snow foam wash
2. I’ll apply the touch up paint on the scratches
3. Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish by using Meguiar’s dual action car polisher
4. After this I’ll use the Gyeon can coat evo spray on the entire surface of the car.

I also have Meguiar’s Ultimate compound and Ultimate Liquid Wax. I am not sure when to use this or need to use them at all?

Let me know what you think.

  • watch chrisfixit videos

    • Or other car detailing videos. Its not that hard.

  • Is your question purely on using the touch up paint or detailing in general?

As for doing the touch up, the best technique will depend on the damage. The only thing they all have in common is don't use the provided applicator.

    • No. Detailing is a priority and the touch up paint can wait.

      • Well it's a massive topic. Bowdens Own have a lot of guides: https://www.bowdensown.com.au/how-to-use

Essentially the same even with other brand of products. I'd recommend going through those then come back with any specific detailed questions.

    As above

Also how old is your car? If it’s new there’s no need to machine polish it. Hand is fine as it’s more gentle on the paint. I’ve had my car for 12 years since new, I’ve only ever needed to hand polish it (that’s because of how I take care of the paint since I bought it).

You apply wax on with one hand and remove wax with the other hand. Wax on. Wax off. Repeat.

What if he needs to paint his fence?

      • Not sure about the fence but when I sand the decks I go right circle, left circle, breathe in, breathe out

    • Mr Miyagi is right.

That is the right choice: secondhand decent Euro car. Congratulations and enjoy your Euro car.
Most Euro cars, at least AFAIK German cars, do have hard coated paints. If it is so, you may need a rotary polisher to cut and correct the paint.
Meguiar's Ultimate and wax are good.

rotary polisher to cut and correct the paint.

This is terrible advice. Please ignore this shite op.

    • secondhand decent Euro car

      LoL 😂.
      You meant troublesome shitbox right?

Are you the same bloke that on reddit keeps repeating that you can reflow car paint to correct scratches by heating it with a blow torch because the level of misinformation here is the same.

OP if your car does have "hard coat paint" (whatever it is called) then you would have to use a rotary polisher. That's why in most of these cases professional detailers do the job, eventually. Hopefully, you post your final result and the polisher you used for it.
Cheap crap jap/kor/chine cars do not have that hard coat paints (just one of many reasons why they are much cheaper than Euros, what you get what you pay for), so it is usual to see those crap car owners' daily jerks here.

Tell us you know nothing about paint correction without telling us you know nothing about paint correction. FFS

      • Name checks out.

Judging by your comment history, paint correction isn’t the only thing you’re clueless about. Still pushing the myth that German cars are the pinnacle of reliability? That’s adorable.
Keep polishing that ego, just don’t use a rotary, you might burn right through it.

First hand experience here. Got rid of my third European car, all purchased brand new. None of them lasted more than between 100,000km and 150,000km.

The paint is the least of ops problems.

      I’ve learnt my lesson.
