I thought they were closing stores, not reopening them?

    • +2

Yeah and nah really. Heaps of stores closed that were owned and managed by the Carl’s Jr Aussie Master Franchise called CJ’s Group. There were about 25 stores that master franchise owned that closed. The remaining 25 stores around Australia were owned by other franchisees and were not impacted. So, the closed stores have been sold to other businesses and/or the remaining closed Carl Jr stores are being sold off to new franchise owners.. just like Campbellfield. It was once owned by the CJ Group.. but now owned by a new franchisee.

      • +1

Will the food be exactly the same due to ownership of another group ? I'll find out soon , I guess .

        • I’ve been to Clayton that was closed for sometime and reopened by a new franchise owner and can confirm the food menu is exactly the same as before.

        • hungry jack's group?
having tried it in the founding location and singapore im sure its different

    Glad they're not bankrupt

    • +1

Me too! Love their Angus burgers, onion rings, chilli cheese fries, chicken tenders and chocolate/Oreo blended shakes.

  • +1

Why do they have such a dumb name?

    • +2

      AI response by Google:
Carl's Jr. got its name because it was initially a smaller, burger-focused version of Carl Karcher's larger restaurant, Carl's Drive-In Barbecue. The "Jr." indicated that these new locations were a smaller scale compared to the original.

      • Yeah. If the Carl's drive in doesn't exist in Australia just call it Carl's.

        • And lose the tie in with the American brand?

          • +1

@Randolph Duke: Why not? It makes no sense anymore.

            • @GenerallyClumsy: Because they didn't setup an American brand to not leverage brand awareness. Why Carl's? Is the head of the Australian office named Carl? Why not call it Jim's, or MacDowell's?

              • @Randolph Duke: TBH, I don't care as much as you, I think the name is a bit of a mouthful. With no brand recognition in Australia, it would be a perfect opportunity to streamline it. I'm saying drop the Jr part as there is no fully fledged Carl's Drive-In Barbecue in Australia.

    Miss our local Carl's Jr.
Hope it reopens. Silly thing about its location is right next door to maccas.

Get them to put one in Fountain Gate next to Taco Bell and I'd (profanity) cum. Glad to see a reopening instead of another closure!

    • Me too! There are still many closed stores in Victoria that are just empty and waiting to be sold or taken over by a new franchisee owner. Hopefully it’ll continue with more stores reopening. I saw this article that there are plans for new openings, but far more conservative compared the amount of stores that opened over a short period of time by the now bankrupt CJ’s Group. https://qsrmedia.com.au/executive-insights/exclusive/carls-j…

I went to Taco Bell for the first time a month or so back and I've been a few times since, it's my new favourite thing. In there the other week, we spent 18 or 19 bucks, got a big burrito, half a dozen tacos, chips, some cinnamon twist things, and a refillable Pepsi. Excellent. Same feelings at Carl's, some of their menu is pricey, as it has to be, but where the (profanity) else in the country can I still walk in and get a double cheeseburger for $3? Better yet, a burger that's actually halfway decent too! I had a two thirds of a Macca's cheeseburger the other day and it was revolting, tiny little dried ass "meat" patty, thinner than my goddamn micropenis. Bun was fine, but (profanity) all sauce too, whole thing was miserable.

Taco Bell and Carl's are my faves at the moment. It's all the same garbage at the end of the day, Macca's, Hungry Jack's, Carl's, it's all processed shit…but by god, Carl's and TB I actually enjoy it. Don't mind HJ's tbh, but Macca's, I'm so genuinely sick of how successful they are, the last time I enjoyed their food was 2012 and in Tasmania, it's all been shit since then, bar the odd decent $5 Quarter Pounder meal deal.

Anyway, moral of the story is, if they put a Carl's in Fountain Gate up at the back with Taco Bell, I'd go in there with my 30 odd bucks, and leave very happy. And maybe ruin a Taco Bell toilet idk.

  • +1

Tastes exactly like HJ’s… but more expensive

    • +1

I went a few times and it was always disappointing and made me wish i went to HJ's instead, but also the last few times i have been to HJ's its been mid and regretted it.

      • +2

HJ is trash.. only good if you pay $3 for a whopper and even then its borderline regretable. Carl's burgers i found if it came out freshly cooked as opposed to just sitting for 20 mins,. were better than HJ, vegies were at least fresher, but the meat/patty was on par with HJ (prob same suppiler). This was back when burgers were $5 - wasnt worth anymore. .. that said a 'fresh' betty's burger is over $10 and really isnt much better

Thanks mate. Popped my Carl's Jr Cherry at Campbellfield. Glad they are back!
