Found these thanks to the other posts today by other members.

Finspan is available, but it is NOT on sale.

Both great games. I have played Wingspan dozens of times on the table top or online, and I personally would only play it now with the Oceania expansion as it makes the early game faster through making earlier moves a bit more powerful and also gives you access to wildcard food. Wyrmspan has less luck involved as there are no food dice, which I personally prefer, but as I already said, both are great games.

  • Are Wyrmspan (and Finspan) worth it if you've already got Wingspan and all expansions? Or just different subject matter?

    • I've not played Finspan but have played Wyrmspan and Wingspan. Wyrmspan is similar, but not entirely the same or a reskin. More like a tweaked version of Wingspan with dragons.

I actually think I enjoyed Wyrmspan more, the food mechanics felt better. I was never sold on Wingspan though.

I play Wingspan with Oceana and Europa and there is a lot of variability and different engines/builds.

The nectar helps you get started and is also another resource to fight over (VP for most nectar in each region) which adds another dimension.

That said, the dice rolls and removing food from the supply from others (or others from you), may be irksome for some as there is some luck re what gets rolled and what food is available. The nectar does help a bit with food availability.

Wyrmspan has no dice. You can always get the food you want (1 or more) and not be stuck waiting for certain food to be rolled. There is still luck re what cards get drawn into hand or goes onto the board at the right time for a player, but it isn’t as much as random dice rolling.

Wyrmspan has additional mechanics for claiming power up rewards as you advance around a wheel (instead of Wingspan round challenges).

Both are great games (Wingspan only with Oceania expansion though, not just for nectar wild food, but replacement player boards that help you get started, and reduces ability/focus on end game egg spamming) and I am very happy to own and play both.

    • Worth noting there that Finspan is $48 and not discounted elsewhere.

  • nice, I'm probably going to pick up the Oceania expansion like you recommend

    • I don't have the physical version of Oceania but when playing on PC will always choose to include it. I find there is more balanced option to point scoring than just pumping out eggs like in the vanilla version.

      • Did you find nectar to be a bit unbalanced? Unless I'm missing something, it felt like it let us completely fill the board with birds pretty easily.

Yeah I think you can generally play more birds, but not such a bad thing (I just got the Steam achievement for playing 16 birds in a game). Generally the birds that generate nectar are expensive, and a lot of them allow all players to collect nectar, so it all balances out.

Fighting for nectar is a new great mechanic too as you get VP for most or second most played in each region.

Even if all players get lots of birds out (and you won’t all get 15-16 birds out regularly if you are good players watching what others are doing and interfering with their plans), you still have to get the most VP to win.

Player with most birds doesn’t win by default!

I didn't wake up today planing to spend $200 on board games but I couldn't pass up on some of these deals haha

  • I picked up my order in Zing this morning and they had other games on special. Picked up the new printing of Heroquest for $98.

I bought both. And TTR. And yesterday I got Heat.

It's a pity I don't have any friends, but you never know.
