Why apple cannot sell phone at this price…

    • +1

They could, but there is no massive profit in doing that. Not knocking their products, they are beyond a doubt, excellent. My meagre budget will stick with my Edge 50 Neo for a bit though:)

    • They are. It's called the iPhone 8.

      • +1

If you're paying 250 for an iPhone 8, I'm afraid you're being ripped off hard. $250 can easily get you a used iPhone 12 or SE 3.

        • iPhone SE 3rd Gen for $249 with 3x 80GB mobile SIM plans included. I bought one two weeks ago, it looks like new and has 100% battery health.

They can, but cannot. apil is not just selling a phone, but also selling an inclusion name for being a part of widespread common mob subculture. If they sell at that price that their very own self-created mob subculture would be shattered, and they would bankrupt in a short time. Some 'lumpen' part of the mob also puts their car keys (e.g. a BMW key), and wallets next to apil phone on the table when they gather for any occasion.

a part of widespread common mob subculture

        It's 2025, no one gives a f anymore. And haven't for ages.

If you buy them thinking this, it's on you for being an ignorant ingoranus

    • There are a few reasons. This one has a plastic back. iPhones are glass or aluminium. Generally, what I'm saying is, Apple products tend to be higher quality than budget models of any brand, across most if not all specifications.

Another reason is, Apple does not tend to discount its products even when a new model is about to release, and retailers don't tend to give huge discounts either because they're popular enough to sell even at the high prices.

Final reason is, because of the convenience of the Apple ecosystem, where all Apple products work seamlessly with each other, you pay a premium for any Apple product. Most Apple users don't mind paying more for this convenience.

But there are still budget ways to get into the Apple ecosystem. The Mac Mini with a 3rd party 27-inch monitor is one of the best bang-for-buck desktop computers you can get, and you can get a refurbished iPhone for as cheap as $250-$350.

    • Apple's gross margin on its phones is about 50%. So it sells phones for twice what it costs to make them.

    • As others siad, there are multiple ways to target this price segment.

      Apple's choices:

      • spend more on the hardware, potentially keeping them longer in circulation
      • longer software support, potentially keeping them longer in circulation
      • hope that once a customer is hooked, she will spend more and more and eventually start to buy new ones

It works well for them. Apple fell behind on the SW side, which hurt iPhone sales somewhat, but I think this is mostly young, feature demanding users. There are a ton of customers who prefer stability over features.

(I recently got an SE 2 for $150 and it looks like even iOS 26 will run on it.)

Only $207 after the gift card value.

I don't think the $40 storecash can be applied to the purchase of the phone. You only get it after the purchase.

    • +2

That's not what that means but I understand that it may be interpreted wrong.

      • So it's not possible to get it for $207?

        • +1

Unfortunately no. It would be in the title if it was.

        • You can buy it for your mum, get the $40 store credit, and then buy it for your dad or other family members. The second one onward is $207 for OP's logic.

  • this vs g75?

  • G86 to be released in the not too distant future.

  • +1

Seems quite decent for this price considering the specs. Thinking of picking one up, but I am a little hesitant due it having a curved screen.

The Edge 30 Ultra with curved screen was really sensitive for me, always registering unintended touches on the edges. Is that still an issue?

    • It says curved edges according to the description so the issue is probably still there

  • I do need a new work mobile and would rather not eSim my work on my personal mobile. Seems perfect for someone who likes to double fist mobiles…

  • Buy this or buy a new screen for my Pixel 6a. What would you do?

    • pixel 8 is $399

      • Only 12 minutes of battery life though.

        • pls share ACTUAL-experience & what you're doing.

  • Most likely that this phone will be on clearance-sale ~ $200. Value-for-money wise vs Pixel 8 @ $400: https://nanoreview.net/en/phone-compare/motorola-moto-g85-vs…

    Doesn't EVERY-phone have some quirks?
