Best price for a 1600VA 960W is usually Amazon @ $269

I have multiple of these units 960W around my house and use them for a lot of Starlink/CCTV installation work without any issues. It runs a Starlink for about 3 hours and it would run a Reolink NVR for about 2 hours.

The screen on the front is handy for seeing all the stats and it has a mute function to stop the beeping if the power goes out.

Have a look at a previous post about UPS from this brand: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/888948 I am copy pasting my previous comment there: "I researched this brand and their UPSs about 2 years ago. I ended up not buying because of this video (and maybe other articled/videos I found at the time): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gqBzLNMFe4 Basically it's claimed they have conductive yellow glue. Not sure if that's still the case." I don't know if this has changed since then.

it's been fixed a long time ago

Different time, different country, different model. Aside from that it's identical.

      • MAC FRAI !!!!

Decent UPS, have a few of these units.

  • Used UPS’s are quite cheap on eBay. You can easily replace the battery and it’s as good as new.

    • +3

Not always. My Dad has had a controller board failure when he thought it was the battery.

Also, who could be bothered to get the 2nd hand unit, source a battery and then replace it when it is $250 for a brand 960W unit? Might save $50?

    Cyber power is pretty good.

  • Went looking for documentation on how to replace the battery in a Cyber Power unit.

    Nil documention existed.

A quick look revealed it looked like the entire unit might have needed to be disassembled.
Battery had leaked inside it anyway.

Never owned one but not a huge fan of these based on poor serviceability and documentation.

    • How old is the unit?

    • +1

most of them are just a battery door panel.

    • I had a look at CyberPower and pretty sure they are all in one unit and battery is not replaceable, went with APC as it allow battery replacement

      • I have replaced batteries in my cyberpower units

  • Do these even come with a battery? No battery capacity stated.

oh wait … "Runtime at half load: 10 mins" . Looks like a small lead-acid. That is the 390W model, so 32Wh. Not much!
Can you connect an external battery?

      🙄🙄

The small units are not really worth it, if you are going to be getting a UPS, you should be over estimating and allowing for extra capacity.

Can you connect an external battery?

      No

My VP1600ELCD has been running 24/7 for almost 3 years without any issues. Has saved my NAS a few times from power outages and works well. The USB interface is plug and play with Synology DSM.

  • good to use on nbn box or security cam if neither came with a backup battery

  • something to keep in mind, CyberPower doesn't automatically turn back on after a power outage if the battery is depleted

  • Mine works fine for little power surges and very short blackouts, but as soon as power to them is cut they beep annoyingly and then run out of power in about 10-15 minutes max.

but as soon as power to them is cut they beep annoyingly

The model of what I have posted has a "mute" button on the front. I've had to use this to stop annoying my wife.

then run out of power in about 10-15 minutes max.

What size do you have and the what load is on it? It is either a small unit or a you have a lot on it. I have my Reolink NVR on its own 960W UPS and it will last 200 mins. But I have another Eaton 2000W UPS on my desktop and that will only last 20 mins generally. So you must have a lot on your UPS to last such a small time frame.

Thanks! That's what the big button with the bell symbol crossed-out and wording, 'Silence Alarm', does! Shall use it in future.

It's a CyberPower CP1500EPFCLCDa-AU PFC Sinewave 1500VA / 900W. The main things are a home PC and a 75" LED TV. I think I used to have the modem connected too but these days internet comes from mobile hotspot.

Yep. It silences it forever. I have 3 for my networking hardware/CCTV etc and it would beep annoying the wife.

You are probably maxing it out and probably running a bit much, especially with a TV……. Depending on your PC PSU, it could be close on the 900W……. So no wonder it'll only last 20 mins.

  • These or APC? What's the general recommendation?

Will be the first purchase of a UPS ever! It will be used to power up a 2 Bay NAS - for Work data primarily.

Much of muchness really. I like the Cyberpower ones because of the little screen giving you stats.
