Must be a good price since they removed it for regional areas.

    • +1

It's because of the shipping and volumetric weight

      • +1

They won't even ship a lip balm to regional areas so not sure what their algorithm is.

        • +1

Could be a case of no regular driver network, and no Amazon Flex contractors to fill the gaps in that area.

          • @dbmitch: But they happily deliver 12 bottles of flavoured mineral water for $11 + free shipping (with prime) via a local courier. Their algorithm makes no sense to me.

            • @MS Paint: That definitely sounds like an enigma then!

        • Theyre just (profanity) and wont do it regardless

  • Also available at JB-Hifi for the same price

    • Do you still get Dell Advanced Exchange with that? Having to deal with JB-HiFi for anything warranty is like pulling teeth. Only time I'd buy from JB is if I'd be happy to throw it in the bin if it breaks.

@muzeeb what is your best cash price?

  • +3

Good pricing for a recently released monitor. No point upgrading if you have an AW3423DW, unless you want the 240Hz (I guess you would buy it since you had enough money to buy a 5080 or 5090).

    For tax time, it's good!

    • 5070 Ti will do the job too

    • how will tax time help?

Any recommendations for a gen3 panel (or higher) WQHD monitor?

    • This one not?

      • This one is gen2 no?

        • Apparently from reviews it is Gen1

          • @serpserpserp: It’s gen 2

            • @zubzub: @zubzub Where do you see that its Gen 2 ?

              • @regenade: Reading through some reviews. Then I just read this so may not be good ?? Confusing.

The Dell Alienware AW3425DW uses a second-generation (Gen 2) QD-OLED panel from Samsung, despite the panel being based on a first-generation subpixel structure. It's an upgrade from the previous generation with a faster 240Hz refresh rate and HDMI 2.1 compared to the older 175Hz model. While it uses a newer panel, the subpixel layout is still the same as the first generation, which can result in some text fringing

                • @zubzub: I don't think the text fringing is too much of a big deal. Considering Tim at Hardware Unboxed has used one (previous version) as his daily / browsing daily for three years. Got one on order anyway, I browse a bit, but the gaming is what i'm getting it for. I didn't really want to wait next year or beyond for someone to use updated panels in UW monitors. That said I am going from 1080P UW, so to me any fringing should be a non issue compared to pleb 1080P PPI.

                  • @Froglotion: It’s probably a subjective thing. I’ve wanted to get an OLED for so long now but more for work than gaming so the text dramas had me worried. I guess at least with Amazon I could return it.

                    • @zubzub: Yeah quite likely subjective. I think if it was too bad, it would be more pronounced in reviews. Gen 3 and gen 4 have square sub pixel layout which is supposed to improve text. If it's just work, surely one of those in 16:9 will work? Though i'm not sure i'd go OLED for work personally. A decent quality mini LED VA monitor could be the go, no burn in to worry about.

                    • @zubzub: As per my other comment I returned this due to the text fringing. It was terrible for me - both in windows and mac.

My previous monitor was a LG C2 42" that had a small amount of fringing, but mactype on windows pretty much fixed it for me (running 4k @ 125% scaled).
                      Mac also was completely useable.

Just switched to the LG 32" 32GS95UV-B - text quality is great - not a widescreen though!

                      • @CarlNotKarl: Yeah I think I’ll stick with my dual Dell G3223Q. They are pretty good for office work and not bad for gaming. 64 inch total is a little much though, was hoping to just get one nice 32-34 OLED but I’ll just keep waiting for now I guess.

              • @regenade: Gen 2 is 240hz, gen 3 and 4 don't look to come in ultrawide yet.

    • +2

I don't think they make one. Need to go QHD 16:9 from my research to get newer gen screens. These ones at least have improved heatsink for burn in, not that it seems to be a big deal with the original one.

    • Doesn't exist yet. Either 16:9 or if you want ultra wide need to go to the insane 5k2k 49 inch

    • +1

What you're asking for doesn't currently exist.

  • Is curve screen good for gaming compare to non curve one?

    • +1

      yeah

      • How about Excel spreadsheets?

        • Excel-lent! Spreads far & wide through out the screen.

        • great size/resolution for spreadsheets

some issues around pixel structure making text blurry to some people. generally not a huge issue ymmv

        • bro gaming with excel

    when $200 @muzeeb?

  • i wish they offered a trade in - $$$ plus old one for half price

  • Hurts seeing this after yesterdays deal

I bought and returned this to JB hifi earlier in the week (for $1499!)

Text fringing is terrible.. Coming from a LG C2, I was chasing more fps and though this would fit the bill but just struggled to get text clarity (even after using mactype, betterclear type, etc..)
Mac was a mixed bag as well (using BetterDisplay).

Returned it and went for the LG 32GS95UV-B @ $1399. Text quality is much better, more fps with the dual mode setting. Only downside is that colours pop slightly less than the c2 or Alienware.

    • Only downside is that colours pop slightly less

you forgot the biggest downside, 16:9 vs ultrawide. Or how about glossy vs matte coating. If you're gaming, not sure why "text fringing" matters or noticable. It's possible it's the lower resolution you didn't like. You wanted 4K and by golly you'll return arguably one of the best monitors in the world to get it!

      • When comparing a 32" 16:9 to a 34" ultra wide, I don't think it's a huge difference. I can understand for single player gaming the ultra wide might be slightly better..
In the space of 4 days I've had a 42" C2 (now my backup), the Alienware 34 (now returned) and the lg 32" 4k and the 32" is the perfect size for gaming for me.

I've read that the number of ultra wide users is such a small part of the market - and there is still games that don't support this resolution, so you will need to consider "reverse burn-in" from running games with black bars either side, or a stretched image.

        Glossy/Matte - User preference

Text Fringing: I still browse the web on my gaming machine, and in some games with small text, the fringing was still present and very easily seen. I think it's a massive flaw with this monitor.

The lower resolution doesn't bother me - I think 3440x1440 on a 34" is completely serviceable in windows, plus you'll get higher fps in games compared to 4k.

There must be a panel lottery when it comes to fringing, with the example I had, I certainly wouldn't consider it one of the best monitors in the world.

        • running games with black bars either side

What shonky games do you play! I never see black bars. I can't remember seeing black bars except occasionally in cut-scenes.

Every 4 hours the Alienware monitor spends 8 minutes doing its pixel refresh thing. The monitor is protected from burn-in. It's one of the best in world because of the deep blacks and perfect screen coating for both day and night. Anyway if everyone happy with their monitors that's the main thing!

          • @cerealJay: Some games don't support the widescreen resolution, especially a number of competitve titles (think valorant.. etc), so instead of playing the game with 2560x1440 stretched out to 3440x1440, you can play with black bars either side @ 2560 so the image isn't stretched.

FYI The pixel refresh thing certainly isnt a complete fix for burn in or reverse burn in. It's good to run, but in the long term not having static content in the same part of your screen over long periods of time is the best thing you can do.

It's a fine monitor if you get lucky with the panel, and don't use it in a room with light directly facing it. I was impressed with the colours.

    • i use two monitors atm, my main 34" 1440p IPS (acer predator) and a 27" 1440p IPS. I use them for work like 95% of the time. I think it's the ultimate setup I definitely need the two as I do a lot of presentations and the second monitor at 16x9 doesn't destroy the presentation on the remote screens. I actually have unused budget from work to use on a new monitor, but there's literally nothing out there that I want to upgrade to :'(

I'd love an oled, but the text clarity on this a qd-oled scares me. I also think i'd lose workspace on other 4k monitors (when you factor in scaling etc) and also, i'd lose the seamless of having by dual monitors at the same physical height.

God I wish there was a worthy 34" ultrawide upgrade me for!

  • Price matches with JB HIFI.

  • This is so tempting. I am still on my 100 hz PG348Q from Asus. Got it for $1k in 2018 & maxing the settings with a 3080 TUF.
This OLED panel is very tempting. But unless I upgrade the PC, it is kinda excessive.

    • I'm on the same boat. My daily drive is an Asus PG349Q running on 6800XT, which is almost the same config with yours, no matter performance or final outcomes. This looks so tempting especially when Dell lowered the game for another $150 today, but on the other hand like you said, if I don't upgrade PC this is overkill. My plan is to upgrade my rig 1 yr after GTA6 release, but I just can't ignore the Dell deal. I must HOLD the pulse…

That's the VA panel tho. Might be a deal breaker for some.

      • Now that you mentioned it, is the OP' panel VA or IPS?

Purchased this earlier this week for $1263 with 15% discount code down from full price $1499. Saw it dropped and contacted them for their price guarantee. Theyre refunding me $325 difference so ends up being $938 for this monitor. Its due to arrive today hopefully its a great monitor for my 5070ti.

    • That sounds like a good deal!!

    • amazing! what store was that?

      • Through the dell website. Got a 15% member discount as my wifes work is affiliated. Can use

        • Ah thanks! with DNCPAU11 it went down to $999.54 for me, included some sort of extra $1 rounding adjustment
