I've had one of these for a few years, while it works I had heaps of issues to begin with. The other annoying thing with the black one is that there is no light or dosage so it can be hard to see how much coffee you have ground against the black without continually taking out the grounds bin and checking. Maybe this is why they now include a dosage cup.

While it claims 'Warranty/Quality Parts: Engineered with 40mm hardened alloy steel burrs manufactured in Liechtenstein', the burrs are mounted on plastic. The lugs on the plastic burr ring kept breaking on mine every month or so, Baratza (owned by Breville) don't repair or replace parts (as they should under Australian Consumer Law). Instead, they make you purchase the parts and repair it yourself. They claimed my coffee beans had rocks in them which is why the parts kept failing and it is designed that way to stop more serious damage. I was sorting beans one-by-one to ensure there were no rocks and the issue kept occurring.

Sick of spending $20 on parts every 1-2 months, I decided to pull the grinder apart, replace a bunch of parts and attempt to recalibrate it. It has worked fine ever since and I haven't had to replace the burr holder.

In hindsight, I should have pushed harder to have the thing serviced or repaired under warranty/ACL rather than trying to fix things myself.

Thanks for the detailed review. It sounds like a dud product. You should sell your improvements to Breville or other owners.

      • Its definitely not a dud. Been using it twice daily for more than a year and no issues.

          You're using Succulent Synth's grinder?

I've had one for about a year. I've been single-dosing with it, and there is retention. Tried getting an after-market bellows (the big silicone one that goes between hopper and lid) and it's better than nothing, but not great. Tried recently to get something off Amazon that was similar to Baratza brand single dose hopper (they don't seem to make that anymore sadly), but they shipped the wrong grinder attachment so had to return. I could be doing something wrong, but I wouldn't recommend for single-dosing.

  • How do you get the price down to $178?

  • Anyone with experience of using this for pour over? Are the grind size consistent or do you get a lot of fines?

So far kingrinder K6 doing well for me for both expresso and pour over. Waiting on 1zpresso K-ultra to arrive.

    • Grind size is horrifically inconsistent. Based on all the positive reviews I thought I received a faulty unit however the replacement was the exact same. Muddy fines with large boulders, bad tasting coffee. Wouldn’t come close to those hand grinders.

      • Thank you for your reply. I would stick to my handgrinder then. I am new to this so. Unclear what electric grinders would perform consistently well for pourover and espresso.
