Cupboard Edging Coming off Any Good Fixes

Hi ,got a kitchen cupboard with the edging coming off , probably slowly due to heat /cooling and grease from the stove top below it over the years ,any fixes someone can recommend ,it's seems about 15mm wide by 1/1.5mm thick, seen some iron on stuff from bunnings that's slightly wider and thinner but I'm not sure that will last ,any feedback or recommendations, much appreciated!

Sorry I don't know how too add pics here!

  • What material? The vinyl wrap stuff? Wood? Other?

I'll start off by suggesting glue, bulldog clip or both.

    • Yea the edging guess it's some plasticy vinyl thin strip runs down the edges of the cupboards

      To be more specific…

      Try Contact adhesive.

It worked a treat for me

Ok. Here is a picture of @jv dog who won best in show last month in the Broadmeadows open classic.

      • Is that jv or jvs dog?
BTW Just got back from my latest solo camping trip. Found a hack for filling up the billy

        Broadmeadows is for Albo voters.

    Sticky tape

  • Soudal t-Rex

It is a bit annoying to work with/dispense with a normal gun but dang if that ain’t the best damn bonding option i ever did see

Use a small paint brush and paint the particle board and the back of the edge strip with contact adhesive, let dry for 30 minutes then push loose edge strip back onto the board.
Clean up with a rag and paint thinners.

    • Thanks sounds a good idea!cheers

      • Stewardo is correct. Its ABS edge tape that has faded so you really want to re-use what you have, plus its already the perfect size. Contact adhesive. Then masking tape over it to hold it on overnight while it dries.

FYI the bunnings stuff is probably "iron on" (heat activated glue) and you use a blade to cut it down after it has dried, but its not as good, doesn't clean as well and fades quicker.

  • Hope this pic helps

  • That's quite thick. The contact glue suggested by Stewardo would prob be best, but check with the glue manufacturer (eg Selleys) about how it would hold up in hot conditions and see if they have other suggestions.

  • that panel edge would be 12mm thick,

it is a PVC or ABS edge strip. hardware stores sell self adhesive ones, however i don't think that will stay on for very long given the location.
if you cant find at Bunnings your local wardrobe/ kitchen manufacturer will have it just rip that piece off and take it there for them to match it,

in any instance you will need to thoroughly clean before reapplying the edge strips. you could use a stronger adhesive,

    • The panel is 18mm.
The pvc edge tape comes in pvc 22x2mm, once is stuck on, it needs to be trimmed with a laminate trimmer and then filed down.
You would have to disassemble the cabinet to do this.
The replacement edge strip would be white.
The existing has discoloured with age.
I wouldn’t recommend ripping it off.

I've used the white iron-on material, it works quite well if you're careful.
For fixing some bathroom cupboard doors, I used "U-Shape Soft Silica Gel Self Adhesive Edge Banding for Cabinet Repair and Protection". I replaced the tops of all three doors so it looked consistent. All you have to do is cut to length, peel and stick.
I got it from here https://www.u-buy.com.au/category/tools-home-improvement-228… two years ago, I'm sure it was cheaper then.
Sorry, I've looked at your photo, this stuff wouldn't help you.
Just squirt in some contact adhesive, and tape it down firmly until it sets.

  • Heat should soften any adhesive that may still be present.
