Dodo Electricity 69% Supply Hike

Just received an email that Dodo is hiking their prices massively. Is this the same for all retailers?

Dodo increases

Supply going from 63.93c to 107.91c and rates going from 29.72c/kWh to 40.3c/kWh.

That's a 69% increase in supply and a 36% increase in rates.

Seems a bit steep to me.

  • Also with Dodo and shocked by this.

If we do a comparison using https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/referral/compare-energy-plans… before 1st of July does it only show pre-adjusted rates or should you wait until after 1st July to switch

Dodo really dropped the ball on that $0.403 price ride though… I really would have pushed for $0.420

  • Another day, another thread about price increases.

    You are not alone.

Everyone's is going up. Just need to continue to shop around.

    • Thanks, yeah on the energy made easy comparison website now.

Looks like I'm gonna have to switch.

Everyone's is going up. Just need to continue to shop around.

Shop around to who when they are all going up?

      • Thats the battle unfortunately. I think it was in another thread that someone said that even if you go to a cheaper deal elsewhere, it'll like go up.

But you might just need to shop around once all the prices have increased to find the best deals unless you can lock in a lower rate right now. I haven't received an increase from Energy Australia as I think my prices have been locked for 12 months from whenever I changed my plan, not sure when it expires.

        Move to the USA then.

        • Won't save much! California is ~ $USD0.32c/kwh, Texas ~ $USD0.15c/kwh

            @7ekn00: Depends on the state…

Some are down to 10¢/kWh there…

            Even cheaper for businesses…

    Just move. Easy.

    • No fees associated right?

"Move-in" fee is for setting up a new connection yeah?

      • +1

Yes correct. No fee from changing provider.

    That's a 69% increase in supply

They're serious about f***ing their customers.

  • Is this only affecting Ausgrid distributor zones?

  • I am on Ausgrid. I just signed up to switch to Sumo for 73.15c supply and 29.7c/kWh, so same rate with a 14% increase on supply. Much better than the 69% dodo wanted!

  • We have had anytime of use rates of over 40 c a kWh here is South Australia for some time. The rest of Australia is just starting to experience what we have had to put up with for ages.

The government is pushing its net 0 Paris Agreement policies no matter what it costs. Huge investments are required for renewables and associated new transmission lines infrastructure. Someone has to pay. Some is coming from taxpayers, the rest from users.
That's why electricity prices are going up.
The irony is that even if it all made any difference, the main polluting contries are not pursuing net 0 (China, India, USA, even NZ got out of it). Having net 0 in Australia is like stopping a flea farting on an elephant.
So Australia is just self harming it's economy and charging Australians through the nose for electricity for no benefit.
