Phonetic Dictionary Alternative - What Are The Options Available ?

Hi Peeps, can anyone help me find a dictionary/book/online resource, which explains pronunciation in this manner, instead of referring to phonetic dictionary.

Even if someone can point and say what this type of dictionary is called it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just use AI / ChatGPT to look up pronunciations, they'll typically include both IPA and a guide on how to pronounce it.

    • I was wanting to download a list of 5-10K words, to practice. Looking every word up, just makes it harder.

      • With Gemini, you can give it a a list of words and ask it to generate a table of IPA pronumciations, you can then export it to a google spreadsheet.

      • You should probably practice how to read IPA notation first, because once you are able to do that, every major dictionary brand (either on the internet, or in physical books) uses IPA and you'll also be able to read those. Not just the ones that you printed yourself.

It may take you one or few days to fully pick up IPA, depending on how quickly you absorb knowledge.

Flashcards are probably one of the best ways to learn it. I use Anki (free software) myself to learn new Kanji and Japanese words.

There are also Chrome / Firefox extensions that you can install to help you pronounce selected english words, as well as look up the dictionary
Google has it's own Dictionary extension (first party) https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/google-dictionary-b… and those will show a pop up with text-to-speech and IPA phonetics.
