lab grown diamonds are a scam.
    more so than Real diamonds.

    • Why are lab grown more of a scam then real? Thanks

      • +3

The value of jewels, inherently, is scarcity.

Lab grown has zero scarcity. That doesn't mean this is cheap to produce (I have no idea), but it should be likened to an overpriced toy. The lab grown jewel has no underlying commodities market to trade on unlike the gold or real diamonds.

Thanks for sharing your perspective — it’s a valid point and one many people raise.

You're absolutely right that natural diamonds derive much of their value from scarcity and tradition. Lab-grown diamonds, while chemically and physically identical, don’t have that same rarity, and we’re transparent about that.

However, for many customers, the appeal of lab-grown diamonds lies in their ethical sourcing, sustainability, and affordability. They offer the same brilliance and beauty without the environmental or human costs associated with mining.

We don’t position lab-grown as an investment asset. it’s a modern choice for value-conscious buyers who still want high-quality craftsmanship and certified stones.

At Pear Jewels, we give customers both options and let them decide what aligns best with their values and priorities.

@pearjewels: I would absolutely choose lab grown diamonds over blood diamonds (in the unlikely event I was buying diamonds at all)

        • +2

You're forgetting the fact that natural diamonds are artificially scarce, companies intentionally restrict supply to drive up prices and maintain the illusion of rarity.

          • @Shiroi Okami: Nah, I removed that from my comment for brevity and impact :p

          • @Shiroi Okami: DeBeers artificially restrict supplies. It’s not a bunch of companies it’s a monopoly.

      • Cost vs Price; Value etc.

        • They are exactly like any overpriced luxury item except they do not have a market. May as well by CZ.

Real Diamonds are also artifically controlled but they still seem to have a market becuase of precieved value (due to rarity etc).

        Google it or ChatGPT.

This is not a real OzBargin.

      • Lab-grown diamonds aren’t a scam — they’re real diamonds, just made in a lab instead of mined. Same sparkle, same quality, just more affordable and eco-friendly.

  • Lol $2k for lab grown

    • +1

Lab-grown diamonds aren’t a scam — they’re real diamonds with the same physical and chemical properties as natural ones. The main difference is they’re created in a lab, which makes them more affordable.

      For comparison:
A 14K White Gold 1.2ct Round Solitaire Natural Diamond Engagement Ring typically costs $8,500 – $11,000 AUD, depending on clarity and color.
The same design in lab-grown can be around $1,900 – $2,500 AUD.

Happy to help you compare both options based on your budget and preference!

Nice try OP - free advertising 101

Appreciate the comment! We do thorough research before posting any deal — and you won’t find this price anywhere else.

Lab-grown diamonds can be more affordable, but they can’t be “cheap” if the quality is high (VVS, D-E-F, IGI certified).

We also offer the lowest price guarantee in Australia — find it cheaper and we’ll beat it. 😊

A lab grown diamond and a real diamond are fundamentally different products that fulfill the same function: they look sparkly on jewellery. I'll bet if OP was here selling costume jewellery for $50 no one would be complaining because they understand that yes while glass stones set in cheap metals MIMIC 'real' jewellery, they are clearly not comparable in any real way. OP has been super clear about what he's selling and unless someone has a problem with his pricing COMPARED TO OTHER LAB GROWN diamonds, I don't understand the criticism.

Just imagine you wanted to buy a a nice diamond, 1.2 carat, colour D or E, VVS.
You'd be looking at over $10,000 for a 'natural' diamond.
With this you get a diamond that is essentially indistinguishable, with the same size, colour and sparkle for 1/5 the price.
So if you're in the market for diamond, why not?

And forget about resale, doesn't matter what diamond ring you buy, resale value will be poor. This is for keeping.

    • Got to hope she says yes

  • Distinguishing Factors:
While visually indistinguishable, gemologists can differentiate them using specialized equipment and techniques. These methods may involve examining inclusions (internal flaws) or using spectroscopic analysis to detect subtle differences in their chemical composition or crystal structure

Saw the negs and was hoping to see someone post a better deal than this- instead found people who just can’t get over the idea of lab grown diamonds. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • -1

A real diamond and a lab diamond probably has a very similar resale value. So why buy a real one in the first place?

    • -2

A real diamond and a lab diamond probably has a very similar resale value.

      False

So why buy a real one in the first place?

      It’s real

  • -1

So with the proviso of not being in the market for a diamond but with very recent diamond research experience:

    1. A VVS diamond is VERY different to a VS diamond.
    2. No indication of symmetry, polish, cut on the product page.
    3. Any possibility of choosing different numbers of claws, or alternatively a different ring style?
  • Anyone opposing lab grown diamonds probably spent ALOT of money on a mined diamond and regret it or they're still under a rock and drinking from the debeers kool aid. The scarcity of mined diamonds is controlled and they provide no more value compared to a lab grown diamond. How is this still up for argument in 2025? There's hundreds of videos and articles debunking the diamond myth and it's been known for decades. Imagine being able to control the clarity and colour of a real diamond and calling it a scam because it was created by very high tech equipment and opting to pay more for a mined diamond that won't match the spec of a lab grown one. A lab diamond costing $3000 can cost upwards of $30,000 from a mine and they're the exact same thing, in most cases the lab one being even superior. Diamonds are useless, people. Buy them in bulk from aliexpress if you want. Its true meaning lies in its symbolism nothing more, nothing less.
