  • No dice on the price-beat if you're not in NSW.

    • just give them the post code they want and they still price match it

    • That's odd. I had mine approved in QLD…

NOTE: If using an impact driver, you MUST use an impact rated socket

As an OzBargain 1%er* I often use regular 8 and 10mm sockets on my impact driver and it’s never been a problem.

*outlaw bikies can relax, I’m only an Ozbargain 1%er not a real 1%er.

Just went down the rabbit hole on this one looking at youtube and reddit, I've always used impact sockets with the impact drivers because I've known the failure mode of a chrome socket was explosive and nasty. Confirmed that it is indeed very nasty but the failure rate is quite low.

I'm glad I have the impact sockets, thanks to OzBargain I picked them up cheaply and have peace of mind that I won't be losing eyes or other body parts in the unlikely event of a failure.

    • This is because you’re using 8mm and 10mm. Try torquing up a 17mm suspension bolt with a chrome socket and the risk multiplies.

I’m an OzBargain 1%er, not a complete psychopath. If it’s bigger than 10mm I’m grabbing the impact sockets and impact wrench.

Absolutely trash brand - do not waste your time on this, their steel has low carbon and extremely prone to snapping

    • Whats your recommendation for a mixed socket set (1/4 and 3/8) ? Looking for a decent quality one at a decent price. So far, the contenders are Kincrome, Bacho, Stanley. If Kincrome is bad, then i should definitely be avoiding craftright (bunnings)?

      • Bahco. Indestructible.

      • Milwaukee. Either Torque Test or Project Farm on YouTube did a test on a stack of these adaptors and Milwaukee came on top and then I think it was Dewalt. I have had the Milwaukee for years and although I don't use them a lot, they are still in good shape.

The Milwaukee set is only $15. Just search Milwaukee 48325033

    Aliexpress sells these for ~$3

I think I got a set for $1 from there in the past that is still fine.

    • yeah I would normally but the $15 minimum spend (free shipping) is killing AliExpress, also I had SCA credit

Why don't buy the Milwaukee Shockwave for $15 RRP?

  • I have this Sidchrome socket set bought from Bunnings in this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/780097. Can I use an impact driver with this? I'm not sure whether that socket set is impact rated.

Can I use an impact driver with this?

      Can? Yes you can.

Should? No, these are not impact sockets. It is an unlikely event, but they can fail in explosive manner when used with an impact driver and the shards are razor sharp and moving very fast, so the results can be serious injury, loss of eyes, bad things for anything around which will mostly be you.

        Thanks.
