Asus F501U-XX043H Laptop (AMD E450, 4GB, 500GB) $397 + Shipping (or Pickup in-Store)

such a decent price for a 15.4" Asus laptop, all you need to do is get a 128GB SSD and replace with the HDD, that would work amazingly like a macbook air with just less than $500 ;)

I agree… putting in an SSD will just be a waste since, at one point, the system will be bottlenecked by pretty much everything else. By all means, buy it for the budget notebook it is - just don't expect it to run anything like a Macbook Air.

  • I had a Compaq one also came with this AMD chip, all I did was simply putting a SSD (of course not as cheap as now), and everything works well, even now. So, it's really up to who is after just a decent Windows version of Macbook Air for daily browsing and office tasks as well as movies and music, not for heavy games of course!

You can pick up a similar priced laptop with a B960 intel chip which is 3x ~ faster.

In fact got the same one as this with the intel B960 for $350.

      • Yep, receipt or link, or it didn't happen. lol

E450 is a joke, performance of a 6 year old pc. Pass

  • Amd is really laggy and the track pad is really annoying. Buttons should not be drag sensirive !!!!

  • I saw these (http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/computers-laptops/laptops/hp-…) at JBHIFI in Prahran VIC for $179 recently, you would be better off getting one of them and putting in up to 8GB RAM. The AMD will drive you insane if you try to watch any online streaming videos such as youtube etc.

If you just want to type documents, access internet and download photos when travelling they are great.

    • I'd buy one at $179 but they appear to be $368.

      • Online price is $368, but they had some by the counter at Prahran for $179 a week or two ago as a managers special or something.

    • I got one of them back in August, I've sent it out to HP for repair 3 times now. It's in the service centre again, I hope they fix it this times and not simply re-install Windows..

For those that are curious, the inbuilt kb/mouse stop working after some time of use. Sometimes it's 3 hours, sometimes it's 3 minutes.
