Valkyria Chronicles 4 takes place in the same timeframe as the original Valkyria Chronicles, but with an all-new story focusing on Squad E of the Federation. Commander Claude Wallace and his childhood friends set out to fight in a desperate war, but bone-chilling blizzards, waves of imperial soldiers, and the godlike powers of the Valkyria stand between them and victory.
Is it any good?
They are very good games. Great art style and quite challenging especially if you are trying to get S ranks for all missions (Hint: For Valkyria Chronicles 1, Alicia is key to getting S rank for many missions).
They are good quality games with a deep levelling and class system.
What made me stop playing 4 is that around the mid game, enemies in missions start spawning in once you reach a certain threshold/checkpoint/some other condition.
These spawns are always unfair to the player so you're constantly fighting at a disadvantage due to your units positioning and made my play through frustrating.
I.e. without prior knowledge of where the new enemies will spawn your units often die due to the unfair advantage the AI has, not because your skill.
I haven't played 4 yet… But the first one keeps getting reinstalled every few years on my machine. :) Yes, it's quite fun.
I also have the PSP release, but haven't actually played that yet.
The psp game was my introduction to the series. Fantastic game! I sunk hundreds of hours into it back in the day.
Weird. I have already owned the original VC but the price of the bundle still shows $19.06?
First game is an absolute journey. Love it! Wish Valkrie Chronicles 2 and 3 got PC ports too.
Extremely good games. Really difficult to call either one better. Both of them have fantastic stories but I particularly adored the pacing and heartbreak, the highs AND the lows, of 4.
One key to success is the fact that squadmates near your current character will contribute to an attack you make for free.
