    • You could get Ethernet on the old chromecast too with the $20 charger, big issue is the chipset. Mediatek is notoriously slow at decoding moonlight/steamlink so don't expect sub 10ms decoding on this every when wired.

    • The old version can do ethernet with USB-C hub.

  • My NVIDIA Shield TV Pro is showing signs of age - still mostly works, but I get flashing static screens every now and then. Wondering if I should take the plunge.

    • Why not if is more than half the price.

      • +3

probably a downgrade if used to the performance of NVIDIA Shield TV Pro

    • +1

Shield TV is still the best and strongest one out there especially if you are using a home media centre or something. Plex/Kodi

    • get an intel n100 or n150 mini pc. Much faster, runs windows or linux and whatever media apps you want. Can decode surround or pass through to AVR. 4K 60Hz works fine streamed from my NAS.

  • there is a black version (they call it hazel) but only available on US google store, annoying

  • If I mount this behind the TV (line of sight blocked from the remote) will it still work?

    • +2

      yes, remote is bluetooth.

only for metro customers AGAIN thanks Bozo.bezzos

    • +3

so it's his fault you live in the sticks? weird.

  • Damm it, they ran out of stock before I can click on purchase.

    • Back again

Be warned that the Foxtel App does not work on it. That's all I bought it for and it now resides in a cupboard.

    • Foxtel are notorious for being slow to update their apps with new OS updates.

    • +1

Correct, doesn't work with Android 14. Hopefully DAZN can sort this out.

  • Why is this marked OOS? You can still place an order with an ETA of 1-4 weeks.

  • Trying to reorder with APP10 but it doesnt seem to work with it. Abyone have success?

  • Thanks just ordered - didn't bother with App.
Item is still in stock just with a ETA 1-4 weeks.

  • Thanks OP. Just got back from picking mine up. Everywhere must have been Ozbargained. Staff took a few minutes to find mine as there were so many on the click and collect shelf. 😂

    • +2

You picked it up from Amazon AU?

      • +2

Doh. Saw the price and item and commented on the wrong post. 🤦‍♂️

        Even worse, I supported Gerry.

  • Can I use the Google TV Streamer 4K to watch the Free Over-the-air (OTA) channels (ABC, SBS, and the three commercial networks: Seven, Nine, and Ten)? Thesignals received by our antenna to our TV is not stable.

      • +1

        I use matt’s feed too.

I find televizo app to be the best for android/google tv in loading this up. Paid but worth it.

        • I use the default live TV app

      • Thanks for sharing. I was planning to set up with Tivimate or Televizo however unsure which one will have the best "DVR" feature to allow recording / playback to skip ads. Any recess?

        • Ohh no experience with recording on the streamers sorry. I only use plex for tv recording but that uses the antenna through hdhomerun.

        • I use Televizo only on my phone/tablet (rarely use) and Tivimate on all my android TV devices.
I don't use the DVR feature though.
But I recommend having a look at Tivimate subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/TiviMate/)
          for more information

      • Thanks. It seems quite complicated.

        • Nah its pretty straightforward. Worth a shot.

Another option is to just download all the network apps like 9now etc and just flick between each app. But it would take a lot more time than the first option.

Expired again but already got shipped out via Auspost which is unusual. Should be here within a few days.

  • I've recently bought a projector (Chinese version) which does not have streaming apps. I want to get streaming app and play buyray rips from local media. What's my best option?
    1. Google streamer (think I'll need to add usb-c powered hub) or firestick 4k?
    2. Raspberry pi 5
    3. N150 mini pc
    4. Full on computer
    5. You tell me…

  • What's the big white box for? Is it a speaker?

    • It's not that big, it's the unit itself, prob just over twice size if the old one

  • If you've got any Good Guys store cash, use it in conjunction with a Harvey Norman (currently selling at $88) price match.
