51% off seems good, and I don't see any other Aus retailer offering the 8tb version.

I know nothing of this specific device, compatability, etc. Don't @ me bro.

      Whoop!

    • yep I am struggling with the 2tb would love 8tb for my ps5, I can install all my 200 physical and digital ps4/ps5 game titles then.

      • and never have the time or motivation to play thru them šŸ˜† and every update downloading in the background

        • yep but think of the convenience when I actually play a game i don't' have to install it :D

Does this not work with anything else besides a PS5? Confusion of da highest ordah!

      Full Review
TLDR: Basically a SN850X that is official licensed by Sony for PS5

    • You can use it in a PC, you might need to take the heatsink off though. Not sure how easy/difficult this particular heatsink would be to remove

  • +3

So is it coincidence that the chip inside the T800's head looked the same as an SSD? Particularly this one?

  • +7

They jack up the price and marked it down, its normally around 1.3k.

Considering I paid $375 for 2tb years ago, $1100 for 8tb (which is actually a useful size.. whereas 2tb is scraping by) it doesn't seem too bad. Although there's no way I'm spending that much money, I'll have to wait 10 years or whatever until 8tb is $400 because all PC components really just got too expensive. Fkn NVIDIA, I blame you.

      • In 10 years every game will be 3tb each

      • When 4TB drives are 300-400$ it looks a bit poor. I guess that's the premium you for 1 8TB stick instead of 2 4TB sticks.

  • +5

Surprising how few 8tb models there are out there.

  • do they have ones without heatsink? I want to put into my lenovo laptop

Man, I really thought back in 2015 that by 2025 we would be buying 100TB Mechanical Hard drives for $300 and 10TB SSD's for $300.

    • +3

Username checks out. Can't stop laughing.

    • +1

Yeah, to be fair storage was moving very fast back then if I recall haha.

    • +5

Yeah. 8TB SSDs came out donkeys years ago yet we haven't evolved since and the prices are worse.

There was a giant flood that smashed a lot of storage manufacturing in a particular region. The market learned they could charge through the arse and people would still pay it. Like literally everything in 2025. https://spectrum.ieee.org/the-lessons-of-thailands-flood

Western Digital and its largest rival, Seagate, were both fortunate that reduced production from the flooding had a silver lining. The recovery expenses have been partially offset by inflated hard drive prices, which ā€œhave not dropped to preflood levels since,ā€ says Thomas M. Coughlin, a data storage consultant. According to IHS iSuppli, both companies have seen gross profit margins go from around 20 percent before the flood to around 30 percent.

so what you are saying is that consumers are so stupid they will pay whatever billionaires ask?
          GPUs - check
          Cars - check
          Housing / Rent - check
          Groceries - check

@Sinnerator: No, I'm saying that industries have been allowed to vertically integrate and buyout competitors to the point that there are no alternative options, even if we're not stupid.

Some of this stuff is also insanely high tech now. There's no more "google started in a garage" stories coming to disrupt these industries. Particularly not when nobody can afford a (profanity) garage. And if you think our lot is bad, try being a worker in those factories.

          • +4

@Sinnerator: I mean, those two at the bottom are critical to live…

    • Prices are crazy ATM. My computer I built more then 2 years ago cost more today if I bought same parts then it did back then. Just the 4tb PNY NVME is almost $90 more.

  • +6

Better off getting another PS5 lol

  • +1

Would this get help up at customs for being >1k?

    • +4

You will be paying Harvey GST by purchasing this. Amazon collects GST from you and pays ATO.

      • +1

Okay cool, I don't care about paying GST, just didn't want it held up at customs like when I bought something for >1k on ebay once.

        Just bought one.

  • I thought the PS5 limit was 4tb? mayhaps I'm wrong though

  • +1

Thx. Grabbed 2 for all of my free Steam games.

  • OMG, 8TB!!! It can really store a lot of ISOs!!!!!

    • or about 10 copies of DeepSeek

  • +3

Been monitoring 8TB SSD prices for a while now. Sadly this isn’t that cheap. Lexar equivalent is about the same price from local sellers as well.

Not going to buy at these prices - 8TB has been out for ages and prices haven’t shifted. Voting with my wallet

    • -1

The lexar isn't even remotely "equivalent". It doesn't even have DRAM cache, or a heatsink.

    • -1

      Lexar…. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH… POS.

  • That isn't 51% off. It is normally around $1290 from Amazon US via Amazon AU.

  • Waiting to see if this and the SN850x will be cheaper on Prime Day.
