Stan Premium + Stan Sport for $9.99/Mo for Eligible Optus Customers until 8/1/26 (Optus Sport Content Only after) @ Optus Subhub

620

Optus Sport has handed off the rights to all their content over to Stan, effective 1 August.

Having a look at SubHub, it looks like there is a deal for Optus customers to sign up for Stan at a discounted rate that includes all of Stan's content up until January. If I'm reading the FAQ right, the $9.99/month will still be charged after January but you'll lose access to everything else (I'm assuming that means Stan's current sport offering).

Note that this deal is for new Stan subscriptions only, it seems. It does say also for returning but according to the A-League subreddit, there have been issues with signup up using existing accounts.

Relevant bits of the FAQ:

Will I still have access to Optus Sport on Stan if I’m no longer with Optus?

No, Optus Sport on Stan is only available to eligible Optus customers while you remain an Optus customer. If you cancel your eligible Optus service/s, your Optus Sport on Stan subscription will be cancelled at the end of your current Optus subscription cycle, and you won’t be eligible to re-subscribe. You will be able to access the same football content by subscribing directly to Stan Sport.

What happens to my Optus Sport on Stan subscription after January 2026?

Your access to Stan Entertainment and Stan Sport ends on 8 January 2026. After that time, your Optus Sport on Stan subscription will only provide access to the Optus Sport football content and you will continue to be billed $9.99/month.

Can I choose to not activate my Optus Sport on Stan subscription today and sign up later?

Yes, you have the option to access Optus Sport on Stan any time before the end of the 2027/28 Premier League season by subscribing via SubHub, provided you remain an Optus customer with eligible services.

Hmm, so on SubHub it says: Includes Stan Premium + Stan Sport until Jan 2026. Available to new and returning Stan customers

Yet at checkout as a returning customer I get quoted the full price :(

    • Same issue for me.

      • Looks like it's fixed now, checked out with $9.99 as the monthly price

  • +10

    Still not worth it.

    • +2

Where else can you go if you want to watch EPL? illegal streaming?

      • Yep

        • Any tips? Whatever I have in Stremio is… Unreliable. I'll take a DM if necessary.

  • +18

    What a mess.

  • +17

Gonna need a degree in quantum physics to untangle that mess.
Optus customer and current stan subscriber? Tough shit. Optus customer and just want the sport? Maybe you can have it, for now, we dunno.

    • +9

Maybe these terms were written by the same team that handles Stan highlights on youtube.

      • +4

        They probably

        were

        by the looks

        of it

      • They are terrible. Thumbnails always have the winning team, highlights never do the match any justice. Absolute amateurs.

  • confused about this: "until 8/1/26 (Optus Sport content only after)"

what does it mean by Optus Sport content only after? meaning we will still be optus sport customers only for the sport section on Stan?

    • +2

My assumption is that it's all the stuff Optus Sport has now, so Premier League, etc. but not the Champions League and anything Stan currently has.

      • still confused, isn't it that OS is closing, hence all thier rights are on Stan, and basically OS will stop billing us from next month

        • +2

Yes, but it seems like there is a sub-product called "Optus Sport on Stan", which reads as though it's everything you get through Optus Sport now, but just accessed through Stan.

          • +1

            @rith: lol how dumb

          • +5

@rith: It seems to me that part of Optus agreeing to pay $40m of the $100m annual licence fee ongoing, was that Stan had to offer their customers a $9.99 EPL package , ie so they can try and keep customers to justify subsidising the rights they no longer own

  • Thanks for reminding me to unsubscribe. I’m going to look for an alternative source for EPL though…

    • Was going to pounce on nbc but then realised it's only selected matches

  • This should mean some premier league streamed in 4K correct? That’s exciting! Stan sport issue where audio goes out of sync with what’s happening on the screen drives me nuts though I hope they fix that

  • +6

At least we finally get Premier league in 4K. Even places like Thailand have had it for years

    • +1

Only select Premier League matches will be in 4k - not sure how many that means a week.

      • +1

It's the same worldwide. Only select matches are filmed in 4k, usually the sky sports ones.

        • Some gameweeks should have zero as Amazon broadcast the whole week.

          • +1

@Chris87: it's not broadcaster dependant, PL produces a limited number in 4K. Sky gets first pick, then TNT, then Amazon

            • @Kanjus: From memory in the uk it is broadcast dependent as when setanta and espn had rights there was limited hd etc.

              • @Chris87: Not anymore. PL now produces the content. Broadcasters bid for various packages

  • +6

    Bye bye 720p in 2025.

    • Hello 480p.

Was watching the community shield last not on my nvidia shield and the only options were Auto, Med SD and Low SD. Same when I tried watching the seaon review and preview.

I can watch movies and tv in Ultra, High, Med and Low though. I contacted Stan and they said

      Thanks for reaching out!

This match is limited to SD as per rightsholder privileges. Rest assured that our HD and 4K UHD coverage will commence next weekend with the Premier League!

Logged into SubHub and I don't even see anything about Stan on there, am I missing something?

    • Do you already have Optus sports?

      • i also don't see stan in subhub. i cancelled my optus sports awhile back. so i need to reactivate it to see stan?

        • +1

Are you on prepaid or postpaid? Unfortunately it's only for postpaid customers, so that might be why. I don't imagine previous Optus Sport membership makes a difference.

      • Ah, so there’s a pre-requisite of having Optus Sport.

  • gather we'll see an influx of classifieds over the next month to set up some share accounts - presume they are still ok with Stan?

    • Watching Stan UCL coverage this season, trying to watch 2 sports streams with the same account produced an error message after a few mins of streaming both screens.

      • Was it basic stan which is 1 stream. Premium Stan has 4 streams would imagine same limit would apply to the sports package then

  • +1

what happens to those of us who purchased an annual subscription with Optus Sports. Mine is still valid until October.

    • Pro-rata refund is what I read on Optus' FAQ

    • +2

      You'll supposedly get a pro-rata refund.

I've also seen someone else get a deal of $25/month (until December) through their app. May or may not be worth it?

      • Optus sport app or stan app? When I go onto Stan just wants me to reactivate my old account. No deal on Optus sport App under promos

        • From the screenshot I saw, it appeared in app. I got no more further info than that, sorry.

    • +1

Pro-rata refund on remaining amount of annual if it runs past 1st August. $25/month for Stan Premium + Stan Sport until 8 December only, after that normal Stan Sport pricing applies (currently $37 for Premium, $27-$32 other options)

  • Happy to pay more for Stan Sport for the EPL, Optus Sport has been an absolute joke.

    • +9

I've had the complete opposite experience, Optus Sport was perfect for me, it was better when they had there UCL too.
I don't want to have to pay an "entrance" fee to then add-on sports with Stan, thier catalog is rubbish and I can watch what I want elsewhere

      • +2

        Yeah it's a fair point.

I'm happy to pay the premium for 4k Premier League and Champions League rather than what felt like 480p on Optus Sport.

Optus also seemed to get more stringent with multiple screens recently, I kept getting booted off by the mate I shared a sub with.

At least with the Optus 4k sub you get 4 screens, so splitting a subscription makes it more reasonable.

        • Not all games will be in 4k.

Optus was 720p in general, but replays were often 1080p.

You could get 4k if you watched on your phone through optus 5g mobile (!)

You could stream in 1080p live matches on the Fetch and possibly the Apple TV.

You could stream in 1080p with the Kodi plugin, but it wasn't auto bandwidth so sometimes it would crap out - Optus Sports app would throttle up and down depending on what was going on (at least it would on my Nvidia Shield).

The shield was also great with the AI upscaling, so even when the resolution dropped it would just artificially boost it back up, and it was great.

      • Drogon TV if you want just sports. I pay about $US9.99 a month and it covers pretty much everything I need

        • Does it have no spoilers service and can I watch matches in full on-demand? Thats the problem with all the IPTV stuff… Can't seem to find that.

        • How to get it? Sorry had never heard of IPTV

        • +1

Hi mate - can you confirm that the domain is drogon.tv? I see a few other domains with the same name and just cautious in case I sign up to a scam imitator.

Is there anything worth watching if dont watch sports?

    • +4

"Is there anything there that I will like? I need you to answer but I won't tell you the sorts of things that I like. I am also unable to use Google to see what's on Stan."

  • just tried signing up to Stan with the subhub. It says i already have an account. When i log in with that account it asks me to pay the full amount and doesn't link it with Optus sport.

    • +1

I just created a new account. planning to email Stan to delete my existing record

  • +1

Activation failed as an old subscriber to Stan; as per Stan support:

Our team is aware of this issue and our Tech Team is investigating. We will be in contact when we have an update to share with you. We appreciate your patience and understanding in the meantime and please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Thanks again – we will be in touch.

    • Cool, I will wait until they sort out the mess. The whole thing is a confusing shitshow at the minute.

  • what does it mean 'from 1 August'? What do we pay until then?

    • Stan doesn't formally take over all the Optus Sport content until August. But if you sign up now you can access everything else Stan has.

      • so free until 1/8? Will def be watching wimbledon.
I also noticed everything in the optus sports app including the womens Uefa cup is now showing as free

  • +3

big question is will Stan keep their prices the same or will they increase it - if its the same then you get EPL + champions league for the same $$ - for some this will be worth it

    • +1

yep, my suspicion is new pricing from 8 Jan. Add on for all sports will double I reckon

  • so the deal is until August 2026 or January 2026 ?

    • +1

      Full access until January.

  • +5

Fantastic news for those of us that are also Rugby/Tennis fans and were already paying for Stan Sports. Even ignoring that, very happy to get 4k EPL rather than the low bitrate 720/1080 streams Optus have been providing for years.

    • hopefully we won't finish 2nd again!

      • Hopefully we buy some strikers

        • -4

10 years later, Arsenal fans will still be saying Trust the process with Arteta, who is on his 3rd rebuild and 67th centreback transfer, and blaming Emery.

      • Be careful what you wish for. You would be lucky to finish second next season.

Liverpool with their new signings will romp it in for the title. City will bounce back a bit to finish 2nd, Chelsea are young and improving and will battle with Arsenal for 3rd/4th. These are my early predictions. Happy to hear yours and let's check back in 10 months time :)

        • Happy to be predicted not to win, I remember where Liverpool were predicted to finish last season.

          • +1

@Arsenal: For sure, anything is possible. It's just fun to predict, and I might be totally wrong, but if Liverpool get Isak, it's game over.

    • Great user name.

  • +4

EPL was the only thing keeping me at Optus. Time to move over to Telstra and get better coverage.

  • +6

    what a brain-f&(#

I can't see Stan anywhere on Subhub. Did they take it down already?

    • I think the original link isn't working anymore. I also can't see anything about Stan.

In my account, I just see my active Optus Sport subscription.

  • What i'm understanding is that Optus customers can continue to access Optus Sport (via Stan) for $9.99 ongoing.

However until January, the $9.99 also nets you Stans full catalogue of entertainment and sports. Then it drops off and you've just got optus sport via Stan left over.

    Is that accurate?

    • That was my reading of it too.

    • This is what it says on Subhub.

Until 8 January 2026, your Optus Sport on Stan subscription will also automatically give you access to Stan Entertainment Premium and Stan Sport for no additional charge.

  • All worked fine for me even though I had previously had a Stan account under the same email.

    • And what can you access in Stan now?

      • I'm all signed up too. Used a previously registered email as well - even with old password rules - no caps, no special.

The whole Stan catalogue appears to be available - although I'm not really familiar with it. Currently watching UCL final replay and it seems to be in 4K, although it doesn't say - it only says 'High'

The catalogue doesn't change between Stan tiers. What changes is the number of simultaneous streams, the max resolution and number of download devices

    • What was the process?

Did you click through Subhub, get redirected to Stan, Login and then reactivate? Despite it showing the regular monthly subscription and not the discounted $9.99 deal?

EDIT: NVM, I can see that they have fixed the login jump-off in Stan to pick-up the $9.99 deal, which wasn't the case earlier in the day. Only 46 more days till the EPL kicks-off again… hurrah!

      • I think they might have fixed something. I was able to activate via sub hub using my existsing email address, which was the same one I used for both Optus Sport and Stan previously. I got one month free Stan and will start getting charged $9.99 from July 30. I can access all Stan content now.
