Westacre Dairy Tasty Cheese Block 1kg $8.99 (Was $9.49) @ ALDI

590

Whilst reading the Weekly Times I saw this article and realised ALDI have dropped their price again. Whilst not as low as last years it’s still a good deal.

Personally I buy it above $10/kg and alternate between Cheer and Bega. Bega more frequently because it is Australian made and owned.

Enjoy!

  • How do you guys avoid cheese getting mouldy when bought in large amounts like 1kg?

    • +1

It massively depends on which one you buy.
The black & gold 1kg tasty block (IGA) goes mouldy after a week or two.
The white label extra tasty from Woolies, well I haven’t seen that go mouldy yet, so by the time I finish it 4-5 weeks after opening it’s still perfectly fine.
The general idea is that the softer cheeses will go mouldy/dry/cracked quicker than the firmer cheeses. So Colby deteriorates quicker than tasty and then extra tasty.
I do make sure to store it in a ziplock bag to give it the best chance at staying fresh longer.

I precut a bunch of slices to store in a container. The rest of the block, vac seal in its bag. Repeat once container is empty.

    • When it makes a little green spot cut a thin slice with that spot on it and you'll be fine for another week

    • People pay for money for mouldy cheese, what are you complaining about?

    • +2

Mould is normally from what the cheese touches,, not the cheese itself.
Slice the wrapper so that there is always a flap at the bottom when you slice it.
Never take it out and cut on a chopping board. Try not to touch the cheese itself when cutting..hold the packet.

important is that price going down. cost of living killing so many (emotionally and financially) that this type of downward movement going to help many family. my grocery shopping cost gone up by 100% now !! unbelievable they started all this on the name of save farmer by increasing milk price from $3 to $4.5 so almost 50% price rise at time when inflation was only 4% !!! That was day time robbery and all politician just walk behind the BS price rise without realising that milk price rise will impact many day to day grocery products and eventually it did impacted everything.. ! 500gm unsalted butter used to be $4.5 now $7 !!!

hope all other super market lower the prices to beat aldi !!! :)

also milk prices should go back to $3.5 may be !

    Poor cows

  • Dude, Bega cheese isn't Australian "owned". Profits go overseas to NZ… The brand is licensed to Fonterra who has the rights for it in Australia.
