Stan Sports Price Increase

After acquiring EPL rights from Optus Sports, it looks like Stan are intent on milking customers for even more $$ to watch the EPL.

Price has just increased for the Sports add in from $15 to $20. Add this to the Stan subscription means the minimum now to watch EPL is $32 (one screen). Previously Optus Sport cost a new customer $229 a year (just over $19 a month).
This is an increase of $13 a month - 68% !!!!!

minimum now to watch EPL is $32

    So around $1 per day?

    • There aren't 32 days in a month.

Nor 32 where I would watch that.

ஆனி is the third month in the Tamil calendar and has 32 days

(Don't try and pronounce it whilst drunk…)

Almost like more content = higher price…

Still, when not affecting you, annoying. Such is life, welcome.

Almost like more content = higher price…

What if you end up watching the same number of hours per month though?

      • What you watch is now what I am talking about.

        Amount of content available is.

C’mon JV, need to use some more contextual clues next time champ.

        • Amount of content available is.

          That is irrelevant.

It should be charged based on usage.

          • @jv: Buddy, again, key word, should.

Should be, but isn't. Is it.

              Should be, but isn't.

The biggest rort is that they don't allow you to subscribe to Stan Sport without also subscribing to their TV and movie package.

Agree, they should certainly offer a sports only package. Even if it is just a fraction cheaper.

    • +2

Agree, is reminiscent of Foxtel back in the day when you had to sign-up to the basic package to add on the Sport or anything else …. Stan's reasoning makes even less sense as well

      • Foxtel back in the day when you had to sign-up to the basic package to add on the Sport or anything else

        You still do…

        • I meant it more when Foxtel had anything people cared about, but yes forgot they still/exist/have that rort

    • +1

I have raised a support ticket asking only for the sports pack without the base subscription.

For now, they have responded that there are no plans to introduce a sports only pack but have to wait and see if that changes.

      Holding out 🤞

      • Not gonna happen

  • Continuing with Stan sports (porting via Optus sports) is only $9.99/m? That's way cheaper than a new subscriber signing up? So worth keeping it under Optus account billing then?

    • That will only last until January.

      • $9.99 will continue for Optus Sport on Stan. We have Full Stan Premium package to enjoy until January.

        • That is what i said but with more words.

  • They really need to add a Stan Sport only package, it's such a rort to watch sport with it being across a billion streaming sites.

  • So i started researching if there is a similar subscription in another country for cheaper and will just use VPN on tv to watch. I already have IPTV but i would like to mainly be able to watch mini matches (25 min highlights) easily.
Let me know if you know of one.

Setanta is an option but they only offer short match highlights or full match replay, as well as live matches. I connect the VPN via Ukraine, the sub fee is $4 per month. Commentary when I watched live last night was in English. Worked from chromebook casting to Tv.

      • Thank for that. But yeah short highlights are available on youtube for free anyway and I don’t care enough to watch full 90 minute replays (unless it is a really big game).
