Given how old this model is, and it's a grey import, I would consider waiting for a 50% off or an Australia stock to price match

But personally, this is the only line of Garmin watch I'm still interested in.

    • Currently on a Fenix 6 pro solar, interested in why this is the only one in the range you like?

      • +3

Mainly the battery life. It's ridiculously long, even without solar.

        https://www.garmin.com/en-AU/compare/?compareProduct=702902&…

The 2 main thing missing from it is:

Still using black and white screen.

gyroscope; so a bunch of running and cycling pro training features won't work, along with a heap of outdoor tracking profiles.

        • Battery life yeah, 1 week is the min I will accept (what I get on the Fenix series). The solar charging on the 6 series is a gimmick at best, doesn't really do anything.
I have changed my watchfaces to black and white so that suits me fine :)
Will have to check out what I currently use the gyroscope with but sounds like the instinct might be more of what I want, just not the metal casing/bigger design, the 51/53mm fit me better.

          • @knobbs: Yeah, the solar just slightly prolongs the battery for the Fenix, but for instinct, I've known cases where it goes up to 50 days without charging. There's a tactical version of the instinct for the prolonged military operations.

Got the non solar. It’s a 10/10 watch. Don’t understand how good a long battery life is. It makes wearing it just as convenient as a normal watch and you rarely forget to put it on after charging. Genuinely exceeded all my expectations.

Mainly the battery life. It's ridiculously long, even without solar.

Now compare real life use, with GPS on 1hr/day. Not "Smartwatch Mode".
Now you get a week or two. I had them all, settled on Epix, more that week with GPS, gorgeous OLED display. Instinct have very readable display too, far better than MIP in my previous Fenix, but OLED is best.
Ohh, and Epix have sapphire glass, no scratches.

@nuker: I actually used the Fenix 6, forerunner 965, and instinct 2, instinct still last much longer. With 1 hour per day, you're depleting about 2% battery for that session. I wasn't rigorous with my running back then, only running once every 2 days or so. Still, we're talking about atleast 2 and a half week.

and I'm not a fan of the OLED screen on the 965lol. MIP is more legible outside, and don't burn in.

The sapphire glass is nice, but you're paying an extra 250 for that privilege lol. That's basically a whole instinct.

@Wonderfool: Instinct MIP and Fenix MIP are two very different things, Instinct one is black/white and is super visible, i respect this display.
Having said that, I like OLED much better. Better resolution and colour allow much more dense info.
Epix'es were going for $800 not long ago :)

It also looks more like an actual watch, like a g shock.

        • -3

Lets be honest here :) G-Shock style watch is not the one you want to wear at job interview, Fenix or Epix have more expensive looks. Next tier is dress watches like Tissot and up.

          • +1

@nuker: The Fenix or Epix is not what is wear to a job interview haha. They don’t look more expensive, they are just much more expensive Garmin watches. A simple $80 steel Casio looks 100 times better than most Garmin watches for a job interview. No one would buy an Epix or Fenix as they want a nice looking watch. They are for outdoor adventures, that’s what they look like they are made for too. I personally think Epix and Fenix would pair with casual wear, and 100% not with a suit or formal/smart casual.

            • @onlinepred: I wear my Fenix to every occasion, weddings funerals and job interviews!

              • @knobbs: That just means you wear a casual watch everywhere! Everyone has their own thing.

            • +1

@onlinepred: I only take my Instinct 2S solar off when I charge every 3 or so weeks.

              • @ihbh: It’s a great watch hey! I typically only wear out when I exercise

Bad deal with the 3 out.

2S solar was $319 Oct last year; 2 was $199 in July last year.

2 was $199 in July last year.

worth mentioning that was for awful fluro lime green colour only.
