  • Why not $ sign at the front? Otherwise ozb won't highlight it.

6th of July. It tells you next to the little calendar icon just above the report button.

  • What are these lamps used for?

    • "Monitor lamp" mentioned in the title.

Try it once, doesn't need to be this expensive, and you might change your mind.

Does not take up desk space, spreads the light evenly on the desk, does not cause reflections on the monitor, can control brightness & colour temp etc.

Most importantly for my adhd mind, it lights up the desk only and helps me focus.

Btw mine does not have a remote but has touch sensitive surface to control. I've never felt the need for a remote. I feel a remote will be just extra clutter.

        • Love mine for the same reasons you listed, ADHD included lol.

I misplaced the remote and turned the house upside down to find it because of how much I rely on this light.

I also like that it doesn't take up room on your desk like a table lamp does.

So sorta like those Lamers who buy and affix big spoiler wings to their cars that doesn't help with aerodynamics whatsoever?

      • The irony is not lost on this one.

        • Haha. Sadly Honda has not produced a rice car in over a decade. People are just flogging dead cows at this point.

it does the job of a desk lamp, well at least for me with 1.5m wide desk it lights up the entire desk area in front of the monitor. I also have a big 32 inch monitor and the height probably helps spread the light.

it means there is no extra desk space taken up, if I didn't have it, I would probably have a bulky lamp on the desk either left or right side.

mine is blitzwolf one from aliexpress btw, not the xiaomi. $20 something delivered over 2 years ago, no puck but still works just fine.

      • Do you use it while you use the computer? Or is it more for like reading / writing on the desk? Genuinely curious.

        • +1

both. well I just have a habit of turning it on when I'm at the desk. and off when I know I'm not going to be back in 30 mins.

also you might think this is odd. but I always prefer to use these smaller USB powered lights, instead of the ceiling/room lights.
people have made fun of me for it saying the difference in energy cost would be in cents, but no I pretty strongly think a 5V powered LED is going to consume way less energy than whatever powerful LED ceiling lights will consume.

    Too expensive !

    • Agreed. I have the MI-BHR4838GLb(‘current model’) - paid $66 last year from Amazon - it’s alright, prob wouldn’t want to pay much more than that.

    • Thank you

    • Does it matter that it says "Chinese Version"?

      • if it's anything like most others, it should be powered by USB. so doesn't really matter what version it is.

        • The remote control "puck" uses 2xAAA batteries.

And to answer @Cantonas question Chinese version should work just fine,

          • @Mostly Melbourne:

The remote control "puck" uses 2xAAA batteries.

            ok thanks for the info.

sounds good to me for remote function. usually for remotes you would expect a coin sized battery (or two). two AAA should give you a year or two at least before having to recharge/swap batteries.

  • Were these always this price? I don't remember buying at this price… I thought it was lower.

Yes, was lower than $60 but many years ago, mine still working.

  • I love the disc remote, just wish these cast RGB light on the wall behind as well.

Just wish these cast RGB light on the wall behind as well.

      Get yeelight but more expensive

      • How do you think of the Yeelight light bar? Is it the Pro model?

        • I don't have one but they have version with RGB

    • just wish these cast RGB light on the wall behind as well.

my blitzwolf has that. cool in the beginning. but over time it gets annoying and you turn it off. only used RGB function for like 1 month. 😂

      • only used RGB function for like 1 month. 😂

I have it, same only tried a few times 😂 , I have problem with the metal bracket couldn't get it to stick firmly to my Dell 32" monitor.

        • I have problem with the metal bracket

my blitzwolf also came with the metal piece with doublesided tape that you stick on the top of monitor. and the lightbar magnetically attaches.

the magnet is not weak but definitely not the strongest magnet in the world, so yes it would wobble a tiny bit and slowly misalign from touching the on/off is a touch sensor on the side of the light bar. probably the only downside I experienced with my blitzwolf, I fixed it by just leaving the metal piece where it is, and put a piece of gaffa tape over the back of the lightbar mount and then down onto the back of the monitor. hasn't moved since.

the moving problem seems to be not a problem exclusive to magnetically attached ones though.

I bought a cheaper than xiaomi one from amazon which has identical mounting design to the xiaomi from amazon for family member. over time it also slowly slides to the left from touching the touch sensor.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I used a stronger tape to stick it onto the monitor, a bit better but still drop a little bit.

            • @superforever: yeah gaffa tape is strong tape. mine still moves if you press it too hard too. but much less than before.

problem with gaffa tape is glue is strong, but after a few hot summer days if you decide you need to remove it, it leaves a lot of extremely stick residue which is difficult to clean off.

  • I got one of these 5 yrs ago, this one have a bad design because of the round controller, bloody annoying.

    • Curious did you find an alternative that better suits your needs?

  • I have these for my quad monitor setup and really like them, the puck makes such a difference. Was skeptical if whether it would help or not but genuinely does. I did buy it for less than $60 about 6 months ago so this is quite expensive.

Only annoyance is if your monitor doesn't have a flat back then this doesn't mount properly. There is a workaround though via Reddit.

  • Where's the backlighting?!
