Need Help to Choose from The Available Solar Battery Brands

Planning on adding a battery to our solar panels due the government rebate we got below from our installer.

15 kwh battery storage $9275.00
Battery Rebate $4875.00
You need to pay $4400.00

The following brands are the available options to choose from:

Solis
Neovolt
Goodwe
SAJ

Does anyone have personal experience or suggestions about any of the above?

Thank you in advance!

  • $4,400 for a battery? That seems super cheap. Rebate applies for NSW?

  • Does Neovolt even do a 5kWh pack? Thought it was just 10kWh, so you’d have to get 20kWh in that brand. Could be wrong.

  • Do you already have an inverter that is compatible with a battery (known as a hybrid inverter) with your existing setup? If so this can direct your choice as if you get a matching battery that is compatible with your inverter it can be DC coupled which is usually the best option.

    • No I don't, but my installer will put a new hybrid inverter that'll work with chosen battery. I'm leaning towards Goodwe.

      • +1

If i was choosing between those 4, i would choose goodwe as well

  • +2

Solarquotes recently had their "Installers choice" for batteries.

I have 2x powerwall2. They look nice. They work. The app is a bit hit & miss. Tesla is very much in control of what you can do.
My SIL has BYD and it looks very nice. Appears to be modular. That's all I know about it.

Think about expansion & size. I have 27kWh and would happily double that.

You'll probably want to play the "get rich with Amber game one day. Check their website to ensure your battery & inverter are compatible with their system. My battery is (which is the main thing) but my Goodwe inverter isn't which means they can't automatically curtail solar output when FIT goes negative.

edit: Get a price for 30kW battery.

    • 30kW??
Damn, that seems overkill for my needs. Half of that is enough to bring down my bills to pretty much zero. I guess it all depends on individual household demands.

On the other hand, I do agree and would've gone with something like a Tesla, Sungrow or BYD if they had a better rebate.

      • The federal rebate can make higher battery capacities less costly than you may have thought. However for the best value it still makes more sense to get one sized to fit your actual usage needs.

      • We are a 2 person household and not a big power user.
27kW is handy when there's an extended blackout.
27kW is handy during an extended period of bad weather when the solar output is low.

We've used 10.9kW since midnight (now 21:40). It's been 100% cloud cover all day. 3.8kWh from the solar; 6.9kWh from batteries and 0.2kWh handshakes from the grid. RC AC heating all day and electric oven for an hour plus lights and washing machine.

        another 20kW would be great.

  • Those Nevolts prices for 30kwh from Voltx are looking very attractive atm
