Paramount Pictures 50-Movie Collection $49.99 @ Apple TV

980

First post just to pay it back to Ozbargain. I saw on the Apple TV store the Paramount Pictures 50-Movie Collection at a great price of $1 per movie. I'm pretty sure this bundle just appeared and dunno how long it will stay on the store for. Cheapcharts says you save $633.51versus buying all 50 movies individually, so there's the deal.

Haven't seen many (if any) large bundles since the last years MGM 100 Bundle https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/841909

So same as then, link just brings you to 48 Hrs scroll down and you will find the bundle.

Some not so good ones, but some decent ones. Up to you to decide if worth adding to your collection.

Cheers, thanks all.

    Not bad $1 per movie

    • -5

Can you show me how you arrived at that number?

That’s a pretty damned impressive list of film.

      Yeah 60% good movies

      • +1

        About 30% worth watching

        • +5

But end up only watching 10%

  • +1

Good deal but according to CheapCharts, $49.99 looks to be the standard price for this

    • +1

Only released this month. $1 per movie is still a bargain

      • -2

Only if you want 1 movie per day for every day I guess and don’t decide to leave Apple TV

        • +6

This isn’t tied to the ATV+ subscription service.
The app formally known at iTunes is just called Apple TV now.

Then wait til you hear what their streaming box is called…

ironically, apparently they used the typeface in that ad without permission

        • +2

          yeah I would…

          • +3

@KRiSX: You wouldn't steal unlicensed font and music then make an unskippable anti piracy ad that will ultimately alert more people to the fact that piracy is actually possible for a movie you are just about to watch!

    • +6

Doesn’t your link say you can download the content and keep it permanently, regardless of whether the copyright owner removes it from apple.

      • +7

Though it is unlikely, content may be removed from Apple Media Services and become unavailable for further download or access.

You can still lose access to your purchases.

        • +3

no you don't. you download them and keep a local copy - it explicitly says the downloaded movies can't be removed by apple.

          • +10

@lunchbox99: If you buy a new phone, factory reset your device etc. and it's been removed from download or access, then it's gone in that case.

Your downloaded local copy is not DRM free, and you can't do what you want with it. Your downloaded copy might not even be the best possible quality.

            • -1

@jwh: You understand that it's not apple (or MS or Google etc) imposing these restrictions? The copyright owners do not grant digital movie distributors perpetual irrevocable licences to the content, and they don't allow the content to be distributed DRM free.

Obviously Apple would do it if they were allowed because that is exactly what they do with music sold on iTunes. You get a DRM free copy that you can use anywhere and copy as much as you like. Movie content owners don't allow this freedom.

Now for the nuances, I'm not sure because I don't buy their content. Are you sure you can't download DRM'd films to windows or macOS (as it says in the apple guidance) and move them to any device where you are logged in to your apple account for playback - be that windows, macOS, phone, tablet etc? Cause it sounds like you can.

          • @lunchbox99: If Apple can do it with music, and amazon with ebooks and audiobooks, guaranteed Apple will follow suit at doing their darnedest to remove the movies

            • +4

@Headless: Music that you buy on iTunes is actually DRM-free anyway, afaik.

              • +1

@FujinShu: Yes it is. You can play it anywhere.

Streamed music files (from Apple Music subscription) temporarily downloaded are DRM'd, purchased music or matched music is DRM free.

      • You can't sell or trade it like you can with a physical Blu Ray or DVD etc. So in that sense you don't 'own' it.

Also, tough luck if you don't have the movie saved on your device when/if Apple remove the movie from their library.

        • +1

Nope. Even if the distributor removes the sale of the title, I am still able to download and stream that movie.

I have 2 of such movies.

          • +2

@fiveferrari: That sounds fair, I didn't realise it was like that… My other point is still valid though. You can't sell it or give it away to someone else

          • -1

@fiveferrari: If the distributor removes the title from sale you obviously didn’t want that title enough if you didn’t buy it when it was in print. It’s just like the dumb conts who have only got into Blu-ray collecting over the last few years whinging that a title is out of print now that was released 10-15 years ago.

        • And yet another company making it ‘sticky’ and thus hard to leave

I have Amazon prime and it just gave me an offer for mgm for 2 months for 99c per month.
Some of these movies are also in mgm. Might be worth a look as $1.98 for 2 months is a pretty good deal.

  • This is way better than the mgm one imo. definitely better movies for your money.

I remember when you could rent vhs films from the store for $1. Now I can do it online!

I remember when old movies like that were included in your $10/month Netflix subscription.

      We’ve gone full circle.

I would not be surprised if one the streaming services set up a store where you can rent physical copies and call it a revolutionary idea.

Or just download these in 15 minutes for $0?

  • All the ones I checked at random (via the listing - I haven't purchased) were HD, not 4K/UHD. Are there any 4K versions in this bundle?

    • Just random check - Footloose and Airplane! are 4K
