This winter, we dipped into the archives and reimagined classic silhouettes from our heritage. This windproof fleece does what its name suggests-keeps you warm in windy conditions. It's made with a bonded fleece fabric designed to trap heat and block the wind. This fabric also provides more shape and structure than a standard fleece. Other features include a drawcord hood, full-length zip and zipped hand pockets. Designed in a relaxed fit you have room to layer underneath. The main fabric is bluesign® approved, which means it was manufactured with the responsible use of resources.

    Ewww at that logo.

They're going for that Patagonia style

    • +2

      Looks good. I like it

    • +3

      It's the old logo

    • Anyone know if it's possible to pick the logo off?

      • Yes, most likely stitched. Just use a sharp knife.

    • +5

I dig it. Takes me back to my first gear purchases with them 25 yrs ago. When all of their gear was good (now it's slim pickings) before they got Kathmandu-ised…

    • +1

      What's wrong with the logo?

  • -1

    $200, yeah ok
    wtf is bluesign approved?

Bluesign certified (https://www.bluesign.com/en/), in short, is about the environmental impact, worker rights, and so on, for textile manufacturers, chemical manufacturers, etc. They're a part of or offshoot of the big certification/testing company SGS: https://www.sgs.com/en, so to the cynical mind it feels a bit like "hey, you want to be more environmentally conscious for your customers & investors/owners? Well, I just happen to know an agency that can certify the fabrics & chemicals you buy. It's just a coincidence that we work at the same address, in the same office, in the next cubicle, and that I was the best man at his wedding". I guess a consumer could see it as a way to make a more "responsible" choice when buying clothing, like this one using "100% recycled polyester" as opposed to buying the cheapest polyester jumper/jacket from Temu/Shein. It's obviously something that adds to the base cost of the materials in the garment, so you'll likely get something cheaper, if that's what you want.

For me, recycling something like polyester means only one batch of crude oil is needed to make multiple generations of the same product, which feels like an overall win.

Why does it feel like there’s a new macpac deal posted everyday on ozb

    • -1

      Because winter is ending

      • +19

We're not even half way through winter.

        • +6

And someone at my home opens all the Windows everyday

          • +11

@bcYield: If you live in a typical Melbourne home - it's warmer outside than indoors..

            • @xhanatos: It is in my Melbourne rental house. No insulation, the only warm part of the house is north facing. With WFH, i have the heating going about 18 hours/day. It can drop to 10 degrees indoors overnight.

        • Half way through winter means it only gets warmer from here.

maybe they could have made the logo neon and flashing too like an OPEN sign outside of a "massage" place

    • +1

An inbuilt Thai massager won't be a bad option either

      • +2

        I'll wait for the pants

  • +29

Bought this yesterday and it’s great.
The sizing runs really large on these. I’m usually a Large and had to downside to a Medium.

    • +2

      Thanks for the tip!

    • +9

great the XXL will be great for me then.

    • Thanks AI told me Macpac runs small so I ordered XL. I'll try my luck with my usual L

    • +1

Tried L and it is bigger than most L-size jacks I have. Rebel didn't have a size M for me to try. But luckily, the Macpac store has stock and is happy to price match Rebel.

      • Really? Thats awesome. Wouldnt have thought theyd price match if Rebel didnt have the sizes…

  • -2

    Ugly

  • +1

    Good deal for Tombliboos…

    • +4

No, jackets are classified as jackets.

From the Oxford English Dictionary: an outer garment extending either to the waist or the hips, typically having sleeves and a fastening down the front.

      Yes, this is a jacket.

        • +1

Maybe you should write to OED and complain about how their dictionary definition is allowing price gouging. I'm sure they would change it to suit your argument here.

  • -2

    It is good for Teletubbies.

  • +10

Looks fine to me. As the description indicates, it is a retro design going back to Macpac's origins and includes their old logo. Reminds me of their '90s gear. Unfortunately, its probably not up to the same quality as the gear they produced in the '90s.

    • 100% this. Now there's only a few select decent technical pieces to pick over. Gone for the middle aged and retiree travel market

  • Windproof

Great, I can stand just sit on the beach and be safe next East Coast Low

    • -5

To be windproof, it has to made of tightly woven fabrics (which fleece is NOT) or have a windproof membrane while also being breathable. Doubt this thing qualifies to be classified as windproof

      • +7

I don't know how effective it is, but the specs for this say it is made of bonded fleece. That means 2 layers of fleece bonded together. Which should give better wind protection than a single layer. Macpac's other non-bonded fleece jackets don't claim to be windproof. Also the non-bonded fleece jackets weigh in around 360g - this weighs in at 780g (for size M) - so the material is significantly heavier and that may also be an indicator it is more likely to stop wind penetration.

        • Quick search shows bonded fleece is good for wind and some garments contain a membrane layer to further keep wind or water out.

  • -2

What grade of wind proof it is as of their $200 rrp. I only know ip6 and ip7.

    • +6

IP6 refers to dust resistance, not wind resistance. There is no such thing as IP7. You are probably thinking of IP67 which refers to dust and water ingress resistance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_code

      • Yes I refer to phone's waterproof which has a grade. While I'm not sure of the level of this windproof weather or not it worths the $200 rrp.

Just so you know that water resistance and waterproof are not the same. By the term windproof it should mean no wind at certain pressure can go through.

Certain people in here appear very insecure about their taste in fashion.

    • You have to wear Patagonia, a chino, and RM Williams to be accepted around here.

  • I like it. Kinda reminds me of a Berghaus one I had on the mid 90s.
Are these actually any good? I'm moving to Tassie at the end of the year so could probably do with stocking up on some winter gear.

    • +1

if i was living in tassie it'd be investment in a Patagonia or Arcteryx without a doubt. Or if I'm feeling bougie, Canada Goose

      • Thanks. I've got a Canada Goose but it seems a bit extreme…plus was expensive++. I took it to England and Canada during winter and found it too much most days. I had to just wear a tee under it or I found I was overheating. Not a massive fan of Patagonia so maybe I'll look at Arcteryx, or maybe even grab a Berghaus.

    • +3

They have a full down jacket on sale as well.

  • No stock for M or L to be picked up or delivered in Sydney.

    • I think S or M gone around Mel also, oh well

    • +1

Macpac have plenty of stock, and are happy to price match

      • Are they really? They would price match at this price even if Rebel don't have the sizes we want?

  • Can anyone comment on the thickness? Are they warm or that thin fleece stuff?

  • Don't forget to activate the following offer under your membership before purchasing: "Get 3x points on your shop. 3x points gives you 15% back! Single use offer only."

Walked in this evening and asked if any, staff said 1 left at the DFO in Vitoria lol.

Ended up picking up the Heritage Hooded Down Jacket for myself, and the NarviDown jacket for my daughter. Checked them out in-store as wanted to make sure of sizing.

    https://www.rebelsport.com.au/p/macpac-mens-heritage-hooded-…
    https://www.rebelsport.com.au/p/macpac-womens-narvi-down-puf…

Both jackets were really ice and looked good. True to size. Might get another one for my other daughter today. I've been chasing a Stone Island jacket since the start of the year, however this has put a nail in the coffin for it. Saves me $1000+.
