      • Wasn't too impressed with the Edge at its RRP, but at under $1000 that is really good honestly.

    legit an amazing phyone

      sadly no microSD card.

        no 3.5mm too

    How's the battery life?&

    • +6

Very good for me. Regular full day with 2 hours screen on gets me down to about 60% when I plug in at night, a bad day with 6 hours goes down to 30%. This is light usage (YouTube, Firefox, chess).

    • +1

Really good. I only charge it every other day.

    • My kid has one of these…

lasts Well into the night..usually can do all their kid shit..get home still have 50 percent.

Turbocharge is great too..plug in its 100 percent in 15mins

4310mAh battery: only good for LOW-end users who apply good battery longevity practice & use the 68W charger IN-frequently.
      68w charging: HIGH-voltage & HIGH-temperature degrade battery fast, compare to say 3W-charger 😇

Alright, I'll cave. The Patte colour is really my thing.

  • nice find.

  • +5

I have the previous version 40 neo
And can vouch for this amazing phone, non bloated os and superb fast charging capabilities.

    • Yup, I have the Motorola Edge 40 myself and been very happy with it!

    • +1

I've got this one, the 50 neo, and highly rate it. Just get rid of the included case as it does jack shot to protect the phone, better off naked.

      • +1

The case is so good. It's practically naked but still protects the corners. I know because I've dropped it.

    • -4

My experience with the Neo was not all roses.

      • Does bloat with Motorola somehow mysteriously installing a bunch of other apps like Temu

      • Mobile comes heavily scented with cologne, needing over a week to air off and wipe down with alcohol.

      • Flicker reduction does not work with low light levels, and suffers PWM flicker.

      • +8

I have this phone, no temu, no scent and I haven't noticed the PWM issue.

        • +5

FWIW Motorola does spray the box with a fragrance for each colour variant

        • +4

I just got the latte, and it 100% does have a strong perfume scent. I don't mind it, but it is very much there.

          • @witheredcouch: We have the red and grey ones here, and didn't notice any perfume - weird.

            • +1

@mskeggs: No sense of smell? Starts with C… rhymes with O-vid…

              • @AstroPhysic: I’ve just been posting rants against these scentless candles and tasteless food too!

Luckily, the phones have been in use since Xmas, so I am only going off memory and a sniff of the box that has been on the shelf for 6 months.

          • +1

@witheredcouch: In one of the weirder things ozbargain has encouraged me to do I just went and sniffed the box my phone came in.
It still has the charger and cable in it, undisturbed
No obvious scent, but maybe a tiny hint of a floral smell? The box has been sitting for 7 months so maybe it faded or was pretty minimal to begin with

      • +6

Does bloat with Motorola somehow mysteriously installing a bunch of other apps like Temu

If you enable it, then yes. Helps if you read the prompts! There's a "feature" where it will install 3 new apps for you to try every so often (can't remember frequency). I noped out of that!

Mobile comes heavily scented with cologne, needing over a week to air off and wipe down with alcohol.

Can't say I noticed any smell to it apart from typical "new phone smell"™️

Flicker reduction does not work with low light levels, and suffers PWM flicker.

Not sure if I've enabled this or not.

        • Where's the option to disable auto install of random apps?

          • +2

            @mr_asstight: Can't find it, sorry.

It popped up after a system update I believe. Definitely Motorola, and it was prompting me to allow it to install 3 "curated" apps every month or something. I told it no thanks. Can't remember any specifics sorry. Been through my settings and apps and can't find anything for it either. It could be in one of the Motorola apps (i.e. Smart Connect) that I can't open since I'm not giving it the permissions it wants. Web search and AI both haven't helped…

      • +1

I just got it, there is the scent, can agree with that. I disabled Moto App manager which stopped it from trying to install games, and I am not particularly sensitive to PWM flicker so the last one is not relevant.

Looks like sold out everywhere except Liverpool (and delivery )

    Thanks OP, got one

Options: can be price-matched with JB Hi-Fi for the Pantone Grisaille colour, as it's the only colour currently available at JB

    • +2

Just tried price matching via live chat on JB's website & was advised they could not price match due to HN having limited stock. Told them I could still add it to cart etc. They still didn't care and told me to buy it from HN since it's a good deal. I'm annoyed they wouldn't price match but maybe someone else will have better luck, possibly in store?

      • +1

That's crazy. It's limited stock cause it sold out. When I bought it last night, every shop in the area has it

Note for next time: when good deal appears, take a photo of the stock situation as well.

        • I did end up purchasing from HN to get delivered but was hoping to pick it up from JB today. In any case, just hoping my order gets fulfilled as I have been holding out for this phone!

      • JB is getting really bad with their price match. I've had them on 3 occasions lately refuse to price match items that are being sold by some of the biggest retailers in the country. They used to be good but the halo of price match is starting to tarnish.

        • +1

i find that JB online chat price matching can be really tough, whilst price matching in person (or even over the phone) can have much more favourable results.

  • For those that have it, how prompt are the security / OS updates like?

    • +2

Can't really comment much on this but my g75 updated straight away to android 15 , once I set it up . Only pet hate is , it went through all updates that the handset got from new , so an hour and a half later 🤔

    • +1

One every 3 months it looks like. I went to their forums and made a fuss about being. Stuck with factory security patch (September 2024) and they added IMEI to some updates, since then one every 3 months.

      Nov 2024 :security
      Feb 2025 :security
May 2025 :security and OS - currently on.

Honestly not too impressed with not very frequent security patches. Came from a Poco that was getting it monthly. But you pay peanuts, you get elephants.

      • +2

under $300 for an update every 3 months and 5 years of OS is a great deal?

    • Generally Motorola updates are done roughly bi-monthly and the Edge 50 is much the same.

I came from a Xiaomi phone and really miss having an ad free dual app feature built into the OS. It's my only complaint and only reason that I'm looking for another Xiaomi or Redmi phone.

    • What xiaomi or redm phone do you recommend? Also looking atm

    • I think you can use the secure folder as a second app?

    • +1

Did you see this deal for Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ Plus 5G posted by @ashumz on the kogan deal

    • Use Shelter?

      • What is it? How does it work?

      • +1

        Gimme Shelter

  • +2

it's an amazing phone. the screen is so bright, battery is amazing. charging is quick.
the only problem I think for me may be the curved display sometimes registers touch. but not all the time.

    • Man, I chose this phone because it looked like it doesn't have curve, but it does as well?

I hate that palm rejection algorithm is still so bad. I can't play slay the spire on my Samsung phone because of poor palm rejection on it. I've gotten used to using it on day to day life but it still comes up with problems from time to time.

      Curved screen sucks.

      • +3

Screen is not curved. It's on a hard 90° angle. The included case doesn't cover the sides so you may accidentally touch the screen just by holding the sides.

  • +1

Does this support video out via USB-C?

    • Same. looking for an answer myself before I surrender to my temptation. Awesome price.

      • +1

It says USB-C 2.0 in the specs, so looking unlikely unfortunately. But I know Samsung Dex on my old Tab S4 could do it and that was 2.0 instead of 3.1, so maybe there's a proprietary Motorola tool for that?

    • No.

  • Have one of these. Can highly recommend. Suprisingly good battery life.

  • Anybody else have issues with the Bluetooth on this phone? When connecting to headphones without absolute volume off the headphones don't get loud at all?

  • Would have bought this phone if it had a dual nano sim tray with esim options.

    • +1

Triple SIM phones do not exist

      • The ability to store an extra physical SIM the same way you can store multiple eSIMs doesn’t have to make it a triple SIM phone.
It would just mean you could optionally have 2 x physical, 2 x eSIM, or 1 x physical + 1 x eSIM active at a time

  • Got it in the last deal from Good Guys for $313 haven't set up yet lol because my s20 Fe still has security for this year and can't be bothered yet with moving thousands of files and apps etc, such a f#cking hassle 😂
Those who bought the phone did you use the Moto transfer app and how was it, if so? thanks

    • +1

Probably best to use it as much as possible while it's under warranty.

On a side note, recently replaced the battery in my S20 FE & it's working great.

      • +2

Yeah good point, I considered keeping my s20 FE past this year but it won't get security updates, tho some people don't seem to care and I've used phones after their security updates and so have a few of my friends and colleagues… and through my work and they don't seem to get any more scams than anyone else … ?? Usually user error, clicking on dodgy links , pop ups or attachments, fake scam phone calls so who knows

        • It's a chance thing. Half my client are still using windows server 2008. Those things have thousands of known issues at this point, including spectre. But hey, it's not their turn yet to have issues.

  • +6

I always buy a premium phone, iphone, galaxy etc.. but it really makes you wonder on the value when you get all this for $299 inclusive of a 68w charger and cable.. meanwhile im spending $1000-$2200 on a phone that has none on the premise we are helping the environment… but find myself needing to be chargers privately.

    • +3

Honestly, it's been hard to choose premium phone for a few years now. They keep introducing features that don't really matter. Is 120hz smooth? Yes. Will you forget about it after using for a day? Also yes.

Now they're adding AI features, and while they're cool, they're impractical and unreliable. Post saved photo portrait mode will only save you from downloading Snapseed. I've been experimenting with RAG to make documents for work, and that hallucinates numbers despite that I've explicitly given it the numbers needed for the situation.

Meanwhile, phone prices is sky high. So I'm glad this neo is massively discounted.

    • Exactly.. same.. adding billions to Samsung's and Apple etc profits when there seems to be a lot of mid range choices these days. I don't use mine for anything resource intensive like gaming or running a thousand things at once tho the tsmarena camera review was pretty bad we all take lots of photos not that I'm a professional but I bought it anyway lol
Can some owners comment pls on camera quality

      • +1

Was it a bad review? Seems fine to me, they weren't very critical of it.
The camera is good. Not current flagship level, but I've compared with iPhone 13 and this is better. Daylight photos are pretty similar, and at night this is much brighter and clearer.
Plus it has an extra lens.
Even against a Pixel 9 Pro Fold, it's pretty close.

    • +5

Budget and midrange phones have definitely closed the gap with flagships in the past few years. If you didn't read reviews where they show benchmark numbers (which don't matter for the majority of people), you probably wouldn't even realise the difference. Cameras are one area where flagships will still pull ahead, no doubts there. Whether the image quality is worth the price increase is up to the individual. I'm not a professional photographer by any means, but having a good camera is still something I weigh heavily when shopping for a new device.

Unfortunately for me, after a lifetime of using flagships, the placebo effect of having the "best" will leave me unable to ever consider a midranger.

    • +3

They can ditch the premium casings for a start. It adds no value and just adds to weight. Plastic is fine. For me anyway.

    • +1

Completely agree. I really care about a headphone jack as I use it heavily. And every premium phone now skips it, but generally mid-range ones do have it.

You'd think that if you're paying 2-3x the amount of a mid-range, you should get everything that the mid-range offers and then some.

    • +1

Not to mention, it comes with a protective case as well.

  • +2

Exactly this. $299 offering so much bang for your ozb buck. It punches chest well above its 💪. I haven't been with notirilw since the original startac razr I think it was. Excited to pick it up later today

  • +2

Been waiting on a deal for a new phone and finally took the plunge on this one. Price matched with JB and used Bupa GC for extra 4.5% off. Thanks Op!

    • hey, in store or online JB price-matching. TIA

      • +1

        Did it online via chat

        • +2

thx, did the same and the rep was happy to pricematch no question asked.. pikced up 30 mins later… cheers

  • OH HELL YEAH, no gift card to worry about now like last offer

  • +1

    This or Moto G75?

    • This

      • -1

Oops.. Bought G75 only a couple of months back :(

    • +1

Got both, this over g75 if you don't need a sdcard and the slightly longer battery. Also g75 came with free earbuds.

    • +1

      Have both in my house.

I brought the G75 recently and sorta slightly regretting it if this deal popped up earlier it would've been hard to make a decision.

Find the G75 really big and kinda appreciating smaller sized phones now
The fingerprint sensor on screen on the Neo 50 is really nice.

  • Any one knows if this has its own Gallery App?
Moto G54 doesn't have (or I can't find it in app gallery) where I can go and look for pictures (except when using the camera).

    • +4

I would have assumed it uses Google Photos?

    • +2

I just got an Edge 50 Neo and it uses Google Photos as far as i can tell. Maybe look for "Photos" not "Gallery"?

    • JB Website is asking for your phone number to verify its you..

      • Rightio, I’ll delete my comment then hahaha
