Weird, I thought 5900 is 12 core. I thought only 5950 series is 16 core.
Edit: https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/amds-ryzen-9…
Seems like it's the same as 5950x
Yes, it's a 5950x with 100MHz slower clocks. Pretty much the same thing:
https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-amd_ryzen_9_5950x-…AMD's "Head of confusing numbering systems" decided to have a go at desktop CPUs after deciding that their laptop models couldn't be any more confusing ;-)
thinking about 5600x upgrade to 5900xt/5950x
I didn't know that you can free trial CPU for 30 days.
you can free trial basically anything, even toilet paper.
Heck, almost bought it to upgrade my 9700X. The second CCD would have been good for my LLM purposes. Then I had to go and be an adult. Sigh.
Damn… just bought a 9900X for $688 from Amazon AU, coming from US. It's not here yet. Would happily have spent the extra $70 for the 9950X.
Amazon offers a return but seems I can only get account credit. So I'd have to wait for it to arrive, return it and then order this - by that time, this price could be gone.
Oh well.
Looks expired. :(
Back in stock :)
I bought a 9800x3d, still haven't received it yet. Is it worth returning the 9800x3d and buying this one instead? they are similar price. I want to use the CPU for a longer time. Currently, with a 10-year only 6700k. It is pretty slow at the moment.
There's also https://www.amazon.com.au/AMD-RyzenTM-5900XT-32-Thread-Proce… for $377.55, cheapest it's ever been but it's only a deal if you have an existing AM4 system.
