Read if You Use AmEx Spend $XX and Get $XX Offers Issue (about My Case from JB Hi-Fi)

First time using their promotion, I saved the spend $100 and get $10 back on 29/6 morning then spent more than $100 on 29/6 afternoon.

My Paypal and JB Hi Fi invoice also showed purchase on 29/6. JB Hi Fi also sent me a link for special deal from Livechat on 29/6.

Amex shows transition on 28/6 and they decided not to give $10 back because I saved it on 29/6 morning.

I understand that I need to save it first to get credit but their system is showing the wrong purchase date.

If you are using their promotion, make sure you saved 24 hours before using it. Their system must have issues.

If you are waiting for credit back, please contact them directly.

Good luck

Update Amex explained I cannot use paypal for promotion and I accepted that.
They just said they are using MST (Mountain standard time) on transaction but seems using AEST for saving the promotion

Once again, make sure you saved it for 24 hours before using it.

Yes. They also said that. But they said I don't get pay because I saved on 29 morning but shows purchased on 28. I actually bought it on 29 afternoon.

        • It would eventually credit. If it doesn’t, just speak to a supervisor.

I have never really looked into it, but I have noticed transactions on my Amex sometimes show on the previous date to the actual spend. I assume it is due to the date in the US or wherever their system is based.

    • You are right. They just said they are using MST to show transition but seems like using AEST for saving the promotion

I've noticed weird dates on my AMEX statement as well, including dates before I made the transaction, this may explain it. Whereas NAB confuses me by only showing the date the transaction is finalised.

Poor customer service by AMEX considering OP has proof of purchase etc.

  • Amex shows transition on 28/6

Ask them what it shows as activation date.

    • activation date 30/6 but they use 28/6 MST transaction date so no cash back

I saved my Reebok transaction and used it within 30mins last Saturday. Got my credit today. Never had an issue with their credit promotion tbh. The issue was definitely because you’ve used PayPal.

Guys…. just saved all the offers when you see them. Its a free option. No reason to try and time it unless there is overlapping offers (seldom see this)

You spent all that time to writing a post about $10?

I’ve never had any issues with my Amex cash back being valid, even when I’ve spent it immediately after saving it

Nah, it works fine and is available as soon as you save it.

Paypal is considered a "third party payment processor" and will usually be excluded from AMEX spend offers. The terms of the offers state "Excludes transactions made through a third party establishment or payment processor.".

Overthinking things. Save and spend straight away not an issue

There will never be a discrepancy between saved offer time and purchase time. Just different time zones for transaction, eg US time for transaction

  • On there eat out promos for 25% back I spent at a restaurant confirmed eligible on their map and the place even had the dine out promo advertised but I never received it - Always screenshot the map because that is what support asked for

Always Eligible via digital wallet (Apple Pay, GPay).
