I'm not seeing the posted price
im skeptical about the warranty if purchased from overseas.
Warranty through Amazon
Amazon JP specifically. Samsung rejects gray imports.
I believe you'll just be able to message Amazon directly through their support and they will usually refund or replace the item for you given it's within the time frame for the manufacturer warranty.
Good price, but probably not ATL.
I got 2 without the heatsink in April for $325.40 total.

$150.57
Maxiotech MAP1602A + YMTC 232L TLC + HMB, ~80% faster than the 990 Pro past SLC cache (NM790 is identical hardware to Vi7000, Drops to 2600mb/s instead of 990 Pro dropping all the way to 1400mb/s if the drive is partially filled) while having comparable if not slightly better random performance.
Also rated higher TBW endurance etc.
The Vi7000G is apparently a component lottery according to here. Here is a review of the Vi7000G with Innogrit IG5236 + YMTC SYMN09TC1B1RC6C 128L NAND + Micron DRAM. I think this is the same infamous YMTC 128L NAND that was reported to have high failure rate.
Ah, avoid the IG5236 if lottery, known bad controller with reliability issues.
On the earlier ozbargain Vi7000 deal peeps were getting MAP1602A, so I thought it was OK. Good to know it's batch dependent, my bad for not checking for variation.
Get the NM790 @ 199 over 990 Pro still, no lottery and much higher performance + lower power with no reported issues.
The NM790 uses 4 @ 2,400 MT/s flash channels whereas the 990 Pro uses 8 @ 2,000 MT/s flash channels so it's horses for courses.
WARNING:
This model has known issues. Google for more details.
I bought one from Amazon. Within a few months the drive would simply shut down and disappear in windows and in bios on restart. Only fix was to shut down completely a few times. Turns out this is a common fault with the 2TB 990 Pro.
Returned for a refund.Interesting (and worrying). There has been a number of similar new reports of failures in Reddit too.
The issues were first reported back in early 2023. Months later, Samsung released a firmware update that claims to fix it. But your comment and the recent Reddit comments implies the issue still exists more than 2 years later.
Do you know the firmware version your SSD was on, and did you do any firmware updates? And what month/year did you purchase it?
From what I have read from various sources including multiple threads on Reddit, the issues being referred to are present in older stock batches manufacturers before early to mid 2023, and the older drives that are affected can’t be fixed by installing the newer firmware that newer batches manufactured after early to mid 2023 began their life with that fixed the issues, because once the older drives suffer from the issues there is no reversing it.
I own 3 Samsung 990 PRO 2TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 NVMe with Heatsinks SSDs, I bought them all from JB HiFi, one last year in October 2024 for $212 which was manufactured in December 2023, and 2 more at the end of January 2025 for $225 each which were manufactured in January 2025, all had the latest firmware installed from after early to mid 2023 that Samsung claims fixed the issues for newer batches, and I’ve tested them and are working perfectly fine with no issues at all.
Thanks for your data points. Just curious, how extensively have you used them?
Looking at the newest comments on the Reddit thread, there were several failing cases [1] [2] [3] [4] of 990 PRO's that were bought well past early/mid 2023. Plus two cases [5] [6] of users RMA'ing their SSD to get a replacement, but that replacement also failed recently. Granted that these RMA's were done recently, I think their replacements were from batches definitely newer than early/mid 2023.
I personally have a 980 PRO 2TB purchased in mid 2023, but that already came with up-to-date firmware at the time. The 980 PRO suffered similar issues as the 990 PRO, but I haven't experienced any problems yet (but it only has 9.7 TB of writes over its lifetime).
Would this be good for PS5?
from the listing description:
About this item
990 PRO heatsink model, PS5 operation confirmed. *According to ITG marketing research
I paid $239 for the same listing two weeks ago. Arrived reasonably quickly from JP and is working well.
No Heatsink model for $207.24 ships from Amazon JP too.
