Will I get fast tracked off the waitlist if I tell the AD that I have one of these books?

Funny to think you've ever been on the list.

      • lol. I was on their "list" 4 years ago just after Covid. I seem to think that list was created with transparent pens. lol

  • I thought I buy a watch!

I used to want a Rolex. Then in 20219 I found out I had to get on a waitlist just to buy one. So I went with Omega instead. I've been buying their watches on and off for close to 20 years. Now even Omega is starting to pull the same tricks.

Twenty years ago, watches were about the watches. You could walk into a store, buy what you liked, and even get a discount. A Rolex or Omega would lose value the moment you left the shop, and no one cared. There was more interest in collecting the watch, not the prestige of owning it.

Now it's all about manufactured scarcity and brand hype. The enjoyment has been drained out of the hobby.

I do regret not buying a Rolex 10 years ago when they were discounted and 40% off used. But I never liked Rolex more than IWC and Omega so always went that way. Yet at those prices, would have been nice to have at least one in the collection.

I’ve moved on to collecting He-Man toys.

    • When I got into watches 10 or so years ago and saw the Speedmaster Moonwatch was around $5k I thought that's what I want when I can afford to treat myself. Now that I can they're triple the price and it feels like where I was 10 years ago.

On your point about hype, when they announced the Moonswatch I thought cool maybe I can own something that looks like the watch I want. As we know that turned into a S fight and I lost interest pretty quick.

  • good deal,

Shame they don't sell the silk bound one anymore…

  • Do I have to buy other less popular books before I might get a chance to buy this one?
