Imagine how many Chrome tabs you can keep it opens with this much RAM.

      I would need 256GB then…for now

Hm I need DDR4 SODIMM for my Aoostar..

So you think corporate purchasing people read ozbargain, or are consumers actually buying this much RAM?
I know it is cheap, but that doesn't mean it is of any use. Despite what "power users" on reddit might claim.

Maybe you are just trying to annoy your Apple friends who can't afford $6000 for a Mac with 128GB :-)

    • I am actually buying this much RAM.

It may be useful for people running local AI models eg llama 70B.

      • Hmmm … minimum 24GB VRAM, 48 really. People are doing that at home?
If you only have 24G of VRAM, doubling your main ram from 64 to 128G isn't going to solve it.

But if you happen to have a H100 at home, then sure.

        • No need for an H100. You could get an Intel 125H or 255H processor and then dynamically allocate as much VRAM as you'd like.

  • I grabbed the last Corsair 2x32GB deal and can't even get past 26GB, can't imagine 128GB! I know there's some very niche use for these but can't imagine how one would consume this much RAM

    • I have definitely used 64GB ram before.

My work machine runs a full stack of cloud SaaS dev environment where it would have a database, redis (RAM storage), a few node.js applications.

While at the same time I'd sometimes have a windows VM running and build server in my machine running some builds.

Would be interested to see if I'll ever max out 96GB or 128GB ram

  • couldn't run memtest86 without a fan pointing on the ram otherwise they'd heat up with signifigant errors
that was 96GB kit, 128gb would be worse
