Why do people keep posting this despite its terrible reputation 🤯

Anyone else have issues with these powerboards sparking or making those sounds occasionally when something is loose? And sometimes it doesn't fit into the plugs perfectly?

    08/09/2019

wow this thing is terrible quality, my computer plug buzzes when plugged in, compared to a different cheaper white one i have the plugs arent "firm" pretty dodgy.

    03/10/2019

power points are a bit loose so some of the larger power adaptors don't sit in firmly.

    28/04/2020

An absolute crap… The wires don't stay firmly in the sockets. A slight jerk will loosen the contact. Better to buy the Arlec ones from Bunnings

    18/03/2025

Same negative experience as others. No one should be buy these they are terrible and not safe.

Have been using for last 3 year so, never had any issue

      • -1

Either you don't notice/care about the loose plugs (which is dangerous) or maybe it's hit and miss if you get a good one. But considering the massive amounts of complaints consistently over years now…why would you risk buying a new one.

        • cant speak for others, but based on my own experience this looks and feels solid, i wouldn’t hesitate to buy another, particularly if with amazon peace of mind return policy

          • @ujwols:

particularly if with amazon peace of mind return policy

What an odd take - I think Amazon's return policy would be the last thing on your mind if you got electrocuted…

            • @brotherfranciz: Haha, fortunately, I haven’t had any issues in the past three years of using this. The return policy, was in regards to the defective device being loose.

I would rather believe my own experience than someone ranting about the product without actually using it.

The last post was 8 months ago and prior was nearly a year before that? I recently purchased this from umart, all plug ends fit snug. Unless you referring to more recent feedback, you've dug deep into historical comments

The last post was 8 months ago

Because people stopped posting this shit product.

prior was nearly a year before that

        Highlighting it's an ongoing issue.

    • Even on Amazon's reviews

      11 customers mention ‘Plug security’
      0 positive
      11 negative
Customers report issues with the power strip's plug security, noting that the plugs don't secure well and fall out easily.

      • Thanks for advocating for the duds. Can you do the same for the word good?

      • +2

I saw this exact complaint but another ozbargainer said that you have to push it a little hard and it will fit. I bought 2 from Amazon after hearing this and it seems to have worked fine over 4 months - no loose plugs and none have fell out.

        • if the plugs don't fit correctly on first go it's probably using connectors for the three pronged chinese plugs. give away is usually tight fit and crunchy sound when plugging in. so many powerboards aren't up to aus standard.

It's literally the highest rated (4.7/5) (sorted by avg. customer reviews..) 8 port with surge protection on Amazon. It was probably older versions that had those issues and they've been fixed or at least improved QC in newer stock.
EDIT: That looks like it excludes ones labeled as just "power strips" which don't seem to have high surge protection figures.

Agreed. I just pay a bit more and stick with Belkin or some reputable brand. Not worth the risk to save 40-50 bucks

    • +3

Using on my 4090 desktop with uGreen 200w chargers without any issues for several years now.

And to my LG 77 inches G3, ps5, with Sonos surround without issues

🤣🤣 but yeah, seriously no issues here

How are you getting 2 for $25?
If I follow your link it shows $29 each (and 2 for $58)

    • +2

      2 usb port 🧐

    • +3

ahhh i think you failed reading

      • +3

Yes sorry I initially mis-read your '2 USB' and 'Anaz Au' (Amazon) part - I was really excited thinking its 2 for $25

        • +3

All good mate, we all have brain fart moments

  • +3

I saw the thumbnail and thought it was a Thor board. Save your pennies, get a Thor

  • +1

    I have this this, it's pretty shit….

  • I would pay the extra $10 for the Belkin

    • +2

Belkin has 1/3 of the surge protection compared to this one.

  • +1

I prefer all the powerboards I buy to be to have individual switches or a master / slave setup.

    • -1
    • +1

individually switched is the way to go. in the past i've fried a couple of lexmark printers when plugging into a live powerboard.

I have had 2 of these for years and they have been great for less than $25ea. You push the plug in until you meet resistance, then all the way in to lock it in. Depending on the prongs it could lock in easy or firmly. I've never had a plug or power brick that didn't sit flush and stay firmly in. There are always comments encouraging others to check that the plug is all the way in.

Buzzing or sparking is likely due to the prongs arcing because they aren't firmly seated. Never had anything like that.

    • Same. I’ve got 5 of these and never had an issue. You do have to push the plugs in firmly. These boards have way higher surge protection ratings than anything else I saw, and at this price they are a bargain.

Can confirm after owning this that the quality is crap. It genuinely feels like a fire risk. Everything is loose and the lights flicker.

    • I'm curious to know where did you purchase yours from?

      • Amazon, on the same deal a few years ago.

  • +1

I've had mine since 2007 and no issues at all, unsure if quality has changed since then but i wouldn't be surprised.

Shame about all the issues people have had.

  • Recently tossed mine. After being zapped by things plugged into it, one of the plugs finally melted down

  • For those who need more sockets, 12 for $37
