I bought one of these from Anazon Germany a while ago. Just a heads up that it's a brilliant TV and definitely worth the $.

    • Agreed, I got the 55" one myself, however its definitely an awesome TV.

    • What did you pay?

      • It was from amazon Germany before they upped their flat 40 euro postage, it was 626 euro which I think it was around AU$750 all up.

great tv, got it from amazon too. I would very easily replace it with another Toshiba.

  • might worth reading some reviews…

      They aren't reviews.

      • yeah, people talking about their experience with a product is not a review.?!?!

        • nope, although the first thing i do when purchasing any electronic product is look up user reviews.

  • Great TV, amazon Germany as well

  • How do you know if the cashback is till valid given that its been running since Nov?
"Offer Valid from 12th November 2012 to 28th January 2013 or while stocks last."

Easy for them to say promo stock has finished now and reject your cashback.

  • Anyone know if the stand/TV can SWIVEL?

    • I wall mounted mine but from memory it doesn't

    • I got mine from Germany and yes it can Swivel…wife does it all the time which annoys me greatly.

      • Thanks. I need one that can do so.

  • So tempting, but I was reading the terms and conditions ; linked from the deal; "TOSHIBA TV BONUS $100 VISA CARD OFFER Purchase this selected Toshiba TV and receive a bonus $100 Pre-Paid VISA card via supplier redemption. Offer Valid from 12th November 2012 to 28th January 2013 or while stocks last. Valid tax invoice required for redemption. Click here to claim online and view full terms and conditions."

This offer has been going since the 12th of November 2012, The terms and conditions on the toshiba site say that there is 1000 available for redemption. As it says on the JB website, "while stocks last" is that referring to the redemption? Because if so, do you think that there are any left to be redeemed it has been like 2 months….

I dont want to buy the TV thinking that it is going to cost me $696, when its really going to be $796 thanks for trying.

  • Bought one of these a couple of days ago from JB after looking at many different models and specs.
It's a great TV for the price.

Just a heads up though, Toshiba say its a 200hz refresh rate but JB say it's 100 with some sort of post-processing to boost the numbers(?). I asked the JB TV tech about this and that was his explanation of the discrepancy between their stated specs and Toshiba's. He said they list it as 100hz so people won't think they've been had.

I purchased one of these yesterday .. decided to bite the bullet and finally retire by 86cm Panasonic HD CRT.
It's nice to have HDMI at last!
Just something I've noticed that may be useful info for some people. The built-in media player supports 1080p MKVs, but not DTS audio decoding. No real surprise. The only thing is that unfortunately it is unable to even pass the encoded DTS stream through its optical out to a DTS decoder. I suspect AC3 will pass fine, just not DTS.
I haven't yet tried passing DTS via HDMI audio (from an external media player) through the TV, and then out via the TV's optical out, but I suspect this won't work also. All it means is that you need to send DTS directly from the external media player, to the DTS decoder, rather than through the TV.
Besides that, it's a very nice looking TV, decent PQ. I downloaded and tried an LG 3D demo, and it worked very well. I highly recommend it.

I have since found that it is actually possible to pass encoded DTS audio stream to an external decoder.
Menu -> Setup -> Preferences -> AV Connection -> Digital Audio Output. Change Audio Format setting from PCM to "Auto".

  • I have bought this TV yesterday and will be returning back to store today and here is why:

    • WIFI fail. The wireless modem is near the TV and the TV can catch it's signal maybe once every 10 minutes for 5 - 10 secs. All the phones and laptops in the howse are connected to that modem so it works.
    • Since you push the power button untill u can see something on the TV …. 10 - 15 secs at least. It's awfull slow.
    • Changing channels is a pain. Changing channels is verry verry slow and i hate it.

The pannel itself and the immage seems to be verry good although we have never owned a LED pannel before.

Will be returning it back today and i might go for a SAMSUNG or LG … any advices ?

Don't turn your tv on and off so frequently that 10-15 seconds affects your life would be my advice.

  • Am I right in thinking that if I bought one tomorrow (and the receipt showed tomorrow's date), I'd have ten days to lodge the claim online and it would still be valid?

    "Redemption Process Overview

    • Register online within 10 days of purchase.
    • Complete the claim form and print.
    • Make a copy of the valid tax invoice and attach the printed claim form.
    • Mail the above 2 documents to Toshiba within 15 days from registering the claim online."
