so tempted .. but my v10 is still going strong…

    • +1

      Same, with a v7.

Battery is great and the floor, after using it, is clean.

Pretty much no justification for a new and shiny haha. I suppose it's the ultimate bargain…

      • Really? My v7 has been pretty terrible. On 3rd genuine battery, and it only works consistently on low power already. It's only good on carpet due to the overly low clearance - sends objects flying off it's not just pushing crap around. Dog hair catches and builds up at the flap prior to the bin. Filter way too annoying to clean.. i really hate it. Actually the v7 and v8 are my least favourite vacuums ever - trash quality at a premium price.

        • You need to clean your V7. Something suck on you tube will cause those problem

    • -1

Likewise.. and I paid more for my v10..

Going from V10 to V15 and even the Gen5 is a far smaller improvement than going from V8 to V10, according to detailed objective reviews looking at suction, battery life and useable dustbin capacity. The improvements focus more on adaptive power, LCD displays and lasers. I personally would hold onto the V10 until an entirely new design comes out (like what happened after the V8).

      • Agree, i don't 'upgrading' if you have a working one. Improvement jumps makes sense since V10/V15 are 1.4x more VOLTAGE with 25.2V vs. previous models running 18V. 'V8' model running on 53.6v=18v vs. Both 'V10' and 'V15' models running on 73.6v=25.2V.

18V models have the advantage of using powertool adapters (e.g. ozito/einhell batts or dewatls etc etc) that make them much better to run and longer life. Lack of cell load balancing often means if there's any cells out of whack, battery full replacement or pulling apart. Older models can keep going with new batteries.

Some models are also prone to plastic trigger breaking (cheap replacements can be bought online but require pulling all apart to replace trigger).

They also changed the orientation of the motor to be in-line instead of perpendicular, which greatly increased efficiency.

    • same with my v10. warranty the main system and head might have another 2 years

    • Same here. I just replaced the filter and it feels like a new machine again.

Also available is the $830 delivered for the V15 Detect Submarine Absolute

    • Choice review has submarine version at number 3 expert rating. The review was updated last month and the V15 wasn’t tested. But as I recall when I bought the V15 detect last year it was rated above the submarine version. Price difference no doubt.
Choice just thinks the submarine is a great stick vacuum but rates it poorly as a hardfloor cleaner, well below dedicated mop systems. This is the cons from Choice :
-Poor at cleaning dried-up dirt on floor.
      • The dirty water tank is hard to handle and a bit messy when emptying; you can't see the water level when it's getting full.
      • No indicator when the clean water tank is empty (just view through the tank).
      • The roller inadvertently detaches easily when emptying and refilling the tanks.

Still, only need one stick power spot.

Dyson makes overengineered low-mid quality products and sells them at absolutely ridiculous prices. They’re never ever a ‘deal’.

    • Trust me, it's not. Deal or not, they are differently built. My V6 is going strong into its tenth year. Other brands probably won't survive half this life.

      • Trust me, other brands last too. My el cheapo dreame v10 is almost 5 years old and super powerful

        • I've had dreame and dyson and while the price of the dyson made me sick, there's no hiding the fact it does a far better job

    • You can argue they are expensive but they are consistently the top rated stick vacs.

They fill four of the top ten over at Choice, and they only got that as they did not test all models (not this V15 detect for example so it isn’t there, but in last years test it was, I think at number 2).

Bought this for $1500 when it first came out. IMO - buy a V8 - once the battery goes at least you can you your power tool converters as the battery off eBay (can’t do it for this model)

But in general, it doesn’t have the same power as a corded vac

    1. Buy a roborock (will do day to day - some are also on special)
    2. Buy a corded vac for heavy duty jobs (the car mats or home air vents for example)
    3. V8 for quick jobs at home.

Is V8 good enough for hard wood floor?

A separate question - I buy non-branded $35 batteries for my good old V6 and they work perfectly fine (usually last a couple of years at least). Won't V15 have such batteries available online?

      • +1

even V6 is good enough for hard floor (suction power)
using the fluffy head does improve the performance in hard floor though

        • V6 has been awesome for hard floors.. It's just a bit too old though. Served over 9 years although it's not our main vacuum lately since we have a Roborock.

      • Hard wood floors (or any hard floor) doesn't require much suction. You only need the massive suction when using it on carpet.

      • +1

we use a v8 for tiles and carpet. sometimes struggles with carpet (dog hair), but its great for tiles.

      • +1

Most stick vacs (other than $49 jobs) are good on hard floors. I have my V15 detect set on lowest power eco setting and get a couple of hours battery on hard floors. Hard floors don’t need high performance vacuuming.

But the key reason to spend the extra on a detect model is the laser on the fluffy head. Utterly transforms hard floor cleaning, greatly speeding up time.

        • there is a laser add-on I've seen online for $30 that clicks onto a v8 - I agree - the laser is pretty cool.

      • if v6 works, keep using that. I have plenty of power tool batteries - I'm not really keen on aftermarket chinese batteries (although I could… my v15 is still fine) But this and other videos made me think twice.

      Great pick-up! Thank you!

Was able to combine with 90day storecash from a previous purchase and commbanks $20 back on $100 spend. Hopefully topcashbacks 3% tracks for the remainder.

If cashback tracks it’ll go down to $570.73 for me.

Dyson cordless products are pretty good when you're confident in flaunting your ACL rights to get a battery replacement after the first 2 years.

    • I mean it's in the nature of high drain li-ion batteries. Around 300 cycles and hates to be recharged to full or when it's hot. Any brand will experience this, atleast you have a leg up with ACL vs buying an import with zip recourse.

Now I bet everyone and their mother charges their vacuums to full right after they've drained it to 0, while it's hot.

  • this sucks

  • This is a steal.

  • This or gen5detect?

  • +2

Gen5Detect back in stock for anyone that prefers. Don't ask me which is better, I don't know!

  • I still have a V6 which is still kicking and works great. Dyson even replaced the battery like 3 years out of warranty for free.
Is the jump really big? I'm curious.

  • whats the difference of v15 with gen5detect? anyone mind to clarify?

    • There’s a lot of good YouTube videos which answer this.

  • Get 4 Dreame for that price and Dreame has interchangeable batteries now too!
