HP ProBook x360 435 G10 86P73PA: 13.3" Touch Screen, Ryzen 5 7530U, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, W11 Pro $599 + Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi

670

I have used and worked on these devices in my workplace (we purchased them for over double this price), extremely good build quality as you'd expect from an enterprise/business grade HP, very easy to upgrade (whole bottom cover is removable, so 16GB/32GB RAM upgrade is a 2 minute job). This Ryzen CPU although from a few years ago is still very much a strong performer, 6 Cores - 12 Threads.

    8GB in 2025 is criminal

    • +3

It's cheap to upgrade (and upgradeable). $600 for a capable workhorse is a no brainer.

  • Upgradeable is nice, is it 2 slots? (Eg: insert another 8gb stick for 16gb) and is it upgradeable for ssd also? I tried googling and there was a video but I'm not sure if it's the same model.

    • +7

Yep 2 SODIMM Slots and ours came with 1 x 8GB Stick of 3200Mhz DDR4. Yes the NVMe is upgradeable, it's your standard 2280 slot.

  • Very tempting, started being on the lookout for a new workstation.

Does it void the warranty if you upgrade the ram?

Also don't forget the $30 perks code if you have one!

    • +1

I have confirmed with HP that upgrading the RAM does not void the warranty so long as nothing is damaged in the process obviously. I'd recommend getting this in writing from them though so you have a leg to stand on, or just returning the device to the factory configuration before submitting for a warranty claim.

Awesome thanks! I did a quick google search and found a couple of similar posts saying the same thing. Appreciate it and thanks for the post :)

  • Is the supplied power adapter USB C or the HP Smart Pin adapter

    • +1

Ours shipped with USB-C power adapters, I can only imagine these would be the same as they are identical models but can't guarantee.

      • Sorry to trouble you again

Does this have Thunderbolt port and an extra USB C port (Two USB C type ports in total) or just one USB C port?

    • I see a barrel adapter on the side of the images and no mention of USB powering in the materials. However, AI sees it differently:

The HP ProBook x360 435 G10 (model 86P73PA) supports charging via its USB-C port. It requires a power adapter with a minimum capacity of 65W. The laptop also includes a dedicated charging port for the standard AC adapter.
      Here's a more detailed breakdown:
      USB-C Charging:
The laptop has a USB Type-C port that supports USB Power Delivery (PD), allowing it to be charged with a compatible USB-C charger.
      Minimum Power Requirement:
A 65W USB-C power adapter is required for optimal charging.
      Fast Charging:
When using a 65W USB-C charger with the system off or in standby, the battery can be charged up to 50% within 30 minutes.
      Standard AC Adapter:
The laptop also has a dedicated power connector for the standard HP AC adapter.
      Warranty:
The battery is internal and not user replaceable, but it is covered under the laptop's warranty.
      Other Ports:
The laptop includes a SuperSpeed USB Type-A port that can also be used for charging.

OP mentioned that his laptop was shipped with a USB C adapter

  • Suitable for school use?
    Battery life?

    • +1

Definitely suitable, they're pretty robust. Battery life is not the greatest but you can easily manage 3-4 hours of light to moderate use. Battery does drain in sleep mode however I think this is more of a Windows 11 thing rather than this particular model

      • +1

Thanks, School needs a full day on battery, so this is not the one.

      • Err no, 3-4 hours with light usage is atrocious for school use.

  • +2

    $569 with perk?

    • And use TCN or Ultimate gift cards.

13.3" but with that bezel it really kills the ultraportable 13.3" vibe

  • Is he heavy?
    Specs say 16gb of ram.

    • Approx 1.5kg, fairly standard for this size device.

Would be nice if true but I think JB have made a few errors in their Specs section as of late, title and description a more reliable indicator

  • Ram upgrade $50 and another $80 to $100 to upgrade the 256GB storage

    • Depends what NVMe you upgrade to, but that could get you a pretty good 1TB SSD

  • If the quoted colour gamut (45% NTSC) is accurate that's pretty poor. I suspect it's not that bad but ideally, I would want a laptop with 100% sRGB or better.

Regarding the CPU, although it's good for the price it's worth remembering it's pretty old. Zen 3 CPU architecture and GCN5 GPU.

    • Lenovo L13 is your friend then, 100% sRGB. But only 8GB RAM

Wow this a fkn good deal and incredibly tempting … but i already have 10+ old 2nd hand laptops!! Hmmmm

  • Unfortunately the battery life killed it for me, was going to get it for a kids school notebook, there are a few complaints on the support forums about this, and stating it has up to 15 hours and 15 minutes with 42whr battery was really pushing it by HP, more like 3-4 hours with normal usage!

Ok laptop if it can be powered all the time though….

  • +2

Thanks for sharing OP, great deal. I paused to find my perks code and missed out!

    • Thanks! and bugger :( i'm sorry to hear that

There was a HP ProBook 440 G10 availlable earlier too (14"/i5-1335U/Touch/16GB/256GB SSD/W11P) for $649 but that was goneskis before I could even post! posting the link in the very slight chance more stock might be discovered 😄

Thanks very much!! I’ll keep an eye out, I don’t know computers at all but both of these looked awesome and would’ve been perfect!

  • I've been looking at a 2nd hand Dell Precision 7550 (i7-10850H/32GB RAM/512 SSD/ RTX3000 6 GB) for $1000 for running engineering software.

This one seems to have better CPU but I'd need to upgrade both the memory and storage. No dedicated GPU either, which tbh doesn't matter too much with engineering software.

    Very tempting.

    Edit nevermind OOS.

  • Extremely unrelated comment but anyone brought the acer swift go 14 ryzen 7 8845hs..

I'm way out of the return period and keeping it but i really do wonder if I should sell it or something because the heat output of the 8845hs cooks the chassis if running like powered mode.

Currently my recent m1 macbook air is my daily driver but the 8gb of ram is diabolical.

this deal w the hp definitely has me keen except again i already purchased a win laptop that I'm supposed to use for uni stuffs.

    • Did you try it OR you just worry that it will cooks the chassis?

      • no I've used it.

Unboxed and stuff and just find it's kinda a permanent flaw.

like bro it gets so hot, it hurts to type on it!

i don't know if repasting would solve it but i personally feel like i shouldn't need to do that on a brand new laptop ya know?

        • Maybe you can return it IF you think it is defective? Show them it is REALLY hot to handle and they may take it back? (Fit for purpose reason)

          • @bobokingdom: True,

Yeah it doesn't really do a good job of being a comfortable to use laptop, definitely feels like it's different experience to what I tried briefly in store. I used the display model of the same laptop but with the Ryzen 5 model (so some differences if the cpu doesn't get as hot etc) but

thanks for the idea that's definitely something I could consider.

            • @AeymothSky: You want U model…..xxxxU for both Intel or AMD if you want a "cool" laptop.

              • @bobokingdom: that's true i guess…

but is there a way to make the HS cpu run like a U processor if you throttle it in the right way or not really?

                • @AeymothSky: You may want to check out the BIOS settings…it should be something like QUIET mode or similar.

                • @AeymothSky: You should be able to do this with universal x86 tuning utility if bios doesn't yield anything

      • I have that Ryzen 7 8845hs with oled screen. Yes it gets hot i was doing a video conversion on my lap in performance
mode and i had to put a thick book under it. It also gets very hot just under the front of the screen. I did get extra 2 years of warranty with officeworks so if it cooks hopefully im covered.

        • Yeah, it's kinda unuseable in your lap right…

to be honest i haven't had a chance to do like more testing but even if light office work or having a few youtube tabs open i notice in hw monitor its already reaching 60c deg easily n stuff!

    • Just missed this one

  • I am thinking of carrying it to work in many countries. Is this device heavy?

  • Just received an email from JB saying the order is cancelled…
